in the great biasing world from whence the

We would like to know, howeror, to what
‘conservative course” “Grafton” alludes,
in contradistinction to the “hot-head, rattle
brain counsela” that “brought tho country
well-nigh to destruction a few years ago."—
A similar paragraph appeared in n letter
written by s eerreepondent to the same pa
per some days ago, front Atlanta, which was
editorially endorsed, and the Columbus Sun
asked the meaning of it, but there was no
respond. Does tho Ttltgraph mean to suy
that it counselled advorsely to secession, and
that it (s proud of the record ? Does it mean
to censure the Mhot-heads” and “rattle
brains" who counselled seoesslon and by se
cession “brought the country well nigli to
destruction ? ’’ If so the people of Albany
end Southwestern Georgia have no sympathy
with it or its correspondents, and are slan
dered in the paragraph.
Perhaps the “conservative course" has re
ference to the soothing policy and conciliato
ry manifestations of the Telegraph towards,
the powers that be, and those Hint ho not.
If this be so, the writer is still at fault, fur
“the people here” will noltber forget nor for
give the men who struggled so hard to ntlu
and degrade them; nor will they forget or for
give those who, for policy, peace, patronage
or plunder, stoop to offer or accept terms
from the infamous wretches, who by fraud,
perjury and power hold the high places in
the State Government.
If to counsel our peoplo against any steps
backwards or downwards, in the way of
terms or compromises with the scalawags
and carpet -baggers who liavo so grossly i n
sulted them, so basely outraged their
oivil and political rights, and so infamously
proposed their debasement and ruin be “hot-
hesdea” and “rattle-brained,” then wo aro
one of those against whom “Grafton” levell

“The people here ” arc proud of their war

right, and now they know it: and in accept

wrongs, aad its disasters, they will spurn all
men who attempt to falsify their reoord, and
all efforta, eome from whatever aouhse, to re
lieve them from the full responsibility of their
