No city, town or village, and we might add neighborhood, ought to be without education* al facilities commensurate with its necessities and abilities. There may lie a necesni j for such facilities without the ability to e iabllsh or support them. That the necessity exists In our city, facts clearly demonstrate: and the same facts go far towards proviii. the ability of the people of Albany to ext ..d the faoUUits they now possess for tilucutlog their ohildren. Last year some of our ohizens, with com mendable seal, procured a building for a fe male school, and secured the services of a genllomau whose qualifications as an instruct- or they had tried and approved—we allude to Mr. Mallory—and now the number of his pupils exceed the oapacity of oue individual to teach to the best advantage, while the building he occupies is not sufficiently com modious for the one or more assistants his la* bors demand. Several of our citizens now send their daughters to distant institutions, a foot of itself evincing a real or imaginary necessity for better educational facilities at home. We understand, too, that there are those living at a distance who desire to pat ronize Mr. Mallory's school; hut as at pres ent situated he is unable to accede to the wishes of those persons to take their children entirely under his supervision. These frets seem to us to prove the need of a suitable building for u larger female school, and also to demonstrate that patron age for its support will not be wanting. We do not propose to discuss the advan tages of educuting our children as near home os possible, or the benefits accruing to a a place from superior educational facilities. These are patent to every observant mind. Our object, at present, is to call the atten tion of our citizens to the subject, with the hope that they will give it that consideration which it demands. The investment of four or five thousand dollars in »n nccadeiny building would pay ut least legal interest in the way of dividends, while the money saved and other ndvantsges* from educating our ohildren at home would very materially en hance the vulue of the investment. The Great Medicine of the World Perry Davis A Son.s “Pain Killer,” may most justly be styled the great medicine of the woild, for there is uo region of the globe into which it has not found its way, and none where it hes not long been largely used and highly prized. Moreover, there ie no dime to which it has not proved to be well adapted for the cure of a considerable variety of diseases ; it is a speedy and safe remedy for burns, scalds, cuts, bruises, wounds and various other injuries, as well as for dysen tery, diarrhoea, and bowel comp'einte gene- erally, it ie admirably suited for every race of men on the faoe of the globe. It ie a very significant fact, that notwith- standing the luug peiiod of years that the “Pain Killer” bee been before the world, it. has never lost one whit of its popularity or shown the least sign of becoming unpopular but, on the contrary, tha call for UhM steadi ly increased from its first discovery by that excellent and honored mtB, Perry Davie, and at no previous time has the demand for u been so greet, or the quantity made been so large, as it ie thie day. Another eiguificant fact ie, that nowhere iiae (he Pain Killer ever been in higher re pute, or beeu more generally used by families and Individuals, than U bee been here at home where It wu tint discovered and intro duced, and where its proprietors, Messrs. Perry Davis & Son, have ever been held in high esteem.
