lution adopted by the mciuhors of Uiu
Legislature, proposing to submit the
question of the eligibility of colored
citizens to hold office under the (
stilufioii and laws ol the State, to the
Courts, This resolution is as follow

of Georgia in General Assembly c on- *
rchciT, That a case involving the
right of colored men to hold office
shall, as soon as tho same can be prop
erly brought Iwforc the Supreme
Court of tho Stato, be hoard and de
termined by saiil Court, nnd we be
lieve that the people of tho Slate, will,
as they have herotoforo always done,
in good faith abide the decision ol the
liigliest judicial tribunal of the Stale
whenever so declared.”
This resolution, as is well known to
the Hon. Mr. Tilt, was adopted
by the Legislature without any in—
tuultou, on tlieir part, to abide by
such decision, (if it should be in the
affirmative,) so far as their own mcm-
liership Is coneeriicd.' It is a fact no
toriously public that a very consider-
able division of his political party oc*
ettned upon the adoption of this reso
lution, bolti wing* however, of that
parly declaring their intention not to
abide by such decision, maintaining
that their action, so far as tlieir own
