On Tuesday morning George Fowler, (eol ircd), was arraigned for killing Petor Jack son, (colored), in December last. The evi dence showed that he went to whero Peter was splitting rails, with a double-barrel shot gun, passed the morning's salutation, nnd upon Peter’s telling him that he—Peter— wanted nothing to do with him, discharged abirrel loaded with buck-shot, emptying it into the hotly of Peter. Drawing up to fire the second barrel, Peter cried for mercy, nud begged hint not to shoot. George pulled the trigger, however, and the cap hursted, hut the piece did not go otf, lie Ihcu threw down the gun and seized Peter’s axe, nnd struck him several blows on the head-bursting the skull every blow. The brute was fully de veloped, an usual in such cnscs. About 0 o'clock, j,. m., the jury retired, iud after an absence of somo ten minutes, turned with a verdict of guilty of murder. We found the planters generally hopeful o! crop prospects, nud heard no complaints except of backwardness. Corn and cotton looks well, but are behind time severnl weeks. ho crops arc In a better condition than wc ever saw them, and it is generally conceded that this hot weather and the rains we nra uow having, will bring them out. We met un intelligent gentleman from Montbello, Fla., who authorized us to say hat there are no caterpillars in Florida. He informed us that crops were clean and prom ising, though backward. The worm wliioh was, by some mistaken for the caterpillar, hns disappeared, aud the cottou pluut is healthy iud vigorous. Since our vcluru wo leaiu that the Court sentenced George Fowler to be huugcd on the 'ah of July next. Wc congratulate the people if Worth ou the prospect of a haugiug—the first they ever had.
