Would a road to Cuthbert aooojnplish them f Not at all; with jthe Southwestern road intervening tho western terminus of your road would.be as far from Montgomery as jita eastern. I lake it that tho people of Albauy in building a road westward wish first, of atookholders, dividends, jsoeondly, of proporty holders, that their road should bo grand highway of freight travel and trafio enriching everything along tits line, particularly Albany. To ac complish then* things certainly it would not bo good polioy to confido tlieiisQicanfl to the keeping of a corpor ation whoso welfare depends on the fnattftita <rifll|cso j hopes. No,p»o- plo of Albany, if you oonsull your in terest. you mutt reaoh the great west ern freight not by the assistance of the South Western road hut in spile Of its hinderance, you must cross tho Chat tahoochee below its influence. Now we people of Early are willing to join exertions with you. Tho Colum- bUB and Bainbridgo road is now co quetting with us, and, upon certain conditions, offers to connect Blakely with Bainbridge; if so, well and good, if not, well and good too, we will “whistle it down the wind.” We haves charter to connect Bainbridge with the Chattahoochee via Blakely. It the Columbus and Bainbridge road will build from Bainbridge to Blakely we will assist it with our means and thereby have but ten miles to build from Blakely to the river; if we do not get that assistance wo will make shift to reach Baiubridge by some other means. In either event though you can reach the west over a friend ly route by building to Blakely, for the Alabamiaus ataud ready to carry on our road from the river to Unioii Springs. As for the two routes, OutttMt)^*. BlikeW, as to distances, I uo air liner measured from Colton’s Atlas. Tho Ordi —- - j nary of this county, in view of the ap proaching term of the Superior Court, end other omergcuoios, alter taking lo- gal advicc, both hero and elsewhere, bussed an order appointing Mr. J. Hughes of tho U. S. A.; he camo with a paper signed by Governor Bullock deciding the question of his right to the office of Sheriff in his favor. During Nor ris’absence it ia known that he was in Atlanta, and in constant consulta tion with tho Governor. With this laper signed by Gov. Bullock, which \onia brought to this plueo, came or ders from Gen. Terry to the command ant at this post, instructing him to recognize Norris as Sheriff, and to .furnish him men when demanded. — Of course I cannot say what these or ders were precisely, but the sequel 'will shew that Norris had full powers -to use tho entire command lor his pur poses when necessity required it, and that be was to he Ihejuage of that ne cessity. There can be no question but that Gov. Bullock and General Terry jboth knew tnat there was a Sheriff in office in Warren acting under autnor- ity when the decision and orders werri J ' —” S.WVIO.WS. wuu ui ucro were :made. On the 6tfr day of June, J udge Andrews pawed the depot uljtBs ——n, Lin, place, and waa called upon by officers of lliia commend to enlighten them upon the vexed question; hut ho very properly dccliued to express mi opin ion, and said that the identical ques- no reaspa why sha thoidd supinely tniffltf lo>pass' aroundlicr which permit should naturally pass through her gales. . i(Uteri litOUfei, Mitohill and'DougVi. erty look abroad for aiding allies, not lukewarm friende. We desire an outlet to the sea, and are willing to secure tain ... results mutually beneficial. Prookeu. , » IIIOIIVIV.UI V|tit's turn was then pending boforo him, and in b few days be would decide it. Colonel IIughcH, J udge Andrews and Mr. Norris went on the train together, and Col. Hughes had full knowledge of Judge Audrows’ viewa and inten.. tions; he went to Atlanta with Nor- ri$, and it is highly probable—almost certain—that he communicated to lire chief and Governor Bullock tho con* versation with the Judge on the Vth of J wie. Norri* returned with an ad* ditional force of about one hundred and thirty men, and went with them into camp: additional orders cauio to the octaooaod^ it-is supposed, , for in about tnrOo hours after ilia arrival lie ordered a detachment of soldiers to arrest tho acting Sheriff, Iialey, refus ed to .show his authority when de manded by llaloy, refused to giro tlmo for suing out habeas oorpus, mid in loss than one honr, at tho head of a court in the oouuty in which the crimes thoy were ohsrgcd to havo been oom. mittod. This Norris resisted, and, with a force of fitly men or more at his command, urged the confinement of all in jail. ThoJudgo (Dr. R. W. Hubert), Ordinary, decided iu favor of tho petition tor hail aud released tliom on strong bonds nt their own request. On the afternoon of the same day an injunction was eervod on Norris, issu ing from Judge Andrews, command ing him to perform no official act un til the farther order of Court Hero tho matter now rests, and hat for this, m twelvo hours, tho county prison would have beon made a bastilo for Norris and Gov. Bullock. It ronuina to be seen whether ordcra from Allan* ta will direct him to respect this pro- ocss of the Court or not, and whutnor . Goncral Terry will sustain him inde- i nance of the law. FI As bail as Norris’ conduct lias bfcen, all theso wanton and wicked violations ol law, and tho liberties el the oilixon are plainly referable to a faithless Ex ecutive, whose motive, 1 fear, is to ir* rilatc our people to aatagotism with the military, and use this for purposes foreign to the constitutional duties of his Office, aud doubtless will excite wonder that the Commander of this military department should suffer his power to he used for such illegal pur poses. Are we living under n Constitu tion which protects life, liberty anil property 1 Instead of having nu Ex ecutive to main the honor mid defend his Slate, we have one who plots mid contrives to oppress (lie citizens, aud trample upon their liberties.
