At the Democrat io Slate Coitvvn lion of Ohio, held at Columbus’, 7th inst., nfler nomlnaling Genl. W. S. UoBtiUCians for Governor, an«l other like disloyal, individuals lor the lower State offices, the assemblage of traitors unanimously adored tho following treasonable and disloyal resolutions which are clearly obnoxious to nil that the government is, and mil for prompt military interference: Resolved, That exemption from tax of over twenty-five million dollars in Government bonds and securities is unjust to tho people and ought not to bo tolerated, and that we are opposed to any appropriation lor payment of interest on public bonds until they are made subject to taxat on. ^ Resolved, That tho claims of bond holders, that tho bonds which were bought with greenbacks and the prin cipal of which is, by law, payable in currency, should nevertheless bo paid iu gold, is unjust and extortionate, and if persisted in will ultimately force upou the people the question of renudiution. Resolved. That wc denounco tho high protcctivo tariff which was de signed only in tho interest of tho Now England manufacturers; that said tan iff is also by its enormous impositions on salt, sugcr, tea, eofTue, and necessa ries, undeniably oppressive, especially upon the people ot the west, and that wo demand us repeal and the substi tution of another Imsod Ujioii revenue principles alone upon tho closest pos sible approximation of absoluto free trade. Resolved, That tho Democratic pari ty ot the United States have always been permanently friendly to the rights and intorcBts of tho laboring man; that they arc in favor of a liroitod number of hours in all manufacturing work shops, hours dictated by the physical and mental well being of tho laborer; that they favor tho most liberal laws in regard to house-hold and home.. steaa exemption from snlo and execu tion; that they are also in lavor ol lib eral grants ot lund from the public do main lo the actual Rctller without any cost, and are opposed to tho donaliou of them toswinuling railroad corpor u tttions; and that they arc generally friendly to the system of measures advocated by the labor and industrial Congresses; and wo pledge the Dem ocratic party, it restored to power, to exercise their influence in giving them practical application. Resolvea, That the attacks of Gov ernors ITays and Lee upon the doings of the late General Assembly are false in fact, malicious in spirit, and tin won thy of gentlemen occupying their ele vated positions. Resolved, That the late General Assembly were called uppii to make largo and oxtraordinarwappropriations to build the burned luuatic asylum; lo provide a reform school for girls and construct a new blindr asylum; to make appvopaiatioiiK to pay over $80,00U ol a judgment, obtained in the Supreme Court of the State in favor of the Life Insurance and Trust Company, and to meet a deficiency of over $500,000 of the preceding Republican Legislature, all of which, together with the extra compensation paid to members under a law passed by a Republican Legisla ture, were piovided lor without an in. crease of t!u» Slate levy, and the ap propriations in the aggregate are much less than that of the preceding Repub lican Legislature, without abstracting $800,000 from the relief fund for the maimed and disabled soldiers and their families. That we hereby return Gener- y for Ihe economical ex-, penditures in tho administration of the State government, and for the exposal of the wholesale frauds in the erection of State buildings, whereby the people were swindled out of half a million of dollars by the negligence of Kopubli. oan State oi * V.saud the dishonesty of the same. Resolved, That it Is tho right of each State to decide for itself who shall possess the elective franchise within 4t; that the attempt to rcgulato suffrage in Ohio by means of tbo so- called fifteenth constitutional amend ment is Bttbvenlive of tbo principles ot the Federal Constitution. ».JVwobwil. poNor ofiogi" lation of tho Radical party directly tend todeatnojr all Aha reserved rights of the States aud to convert the Re public into a consolidated despotism ; that whether sncli deipotism be e^er^ ngrojw, the result won! Resolued, That the numerous pal pable and highhanded usurpations ot the party iu powsr, and their many publie and private acts of tyaany, trampling under loot thcoivil law am* the guarantees of tho Constitution^ •their continuing to deprive sovereij States of representation in Congvf and to goOcu Slates by mere inilila ry rule, show them to bo the party of despotism and unworthy of the confi. deuce and support ol a free people. The Slate Pruitt ml,try. The FCrteral Union of tho Otli instant, sayH it learns that Mr. Thomas Alex-. under has leased this institution lor term of years. Tho convicts will bo employed at prcscut on tho unfinished portion of thi Macon and Augusta Raiiroad lying belwcou this city and Macon. Col. Walton, lalo I’riucipu! Keeper, is, we understand, retained in the institution by the Stale, the other officers being dispensed with ; and the Recorder states that Messrs. Hawkins, Carrington, and McComb, have been appointed to take an inventory of tho establishment which, it thinks, has already beon done. It is by virtue of the act passed by the General Assem bly of the State at its late session, that Governor Rullocfedfas thus leased an institution which has been an eye sore, as it were, to tho Statu aud an endless expense to it. We are not apprised whether the lease iutendsto the closing up of the institution altogether, but presume it will not. Re this as it may, wo have but little doubt that the leasing out of tho convicts, as authorized by lliu Legislature, will result in their becoming a source ol profit, rather than of expense to the State, but whether in a humane point ot view, it is just to tho convicts, remains to be tested. Time will show, and should it prove, although there may be money in it, that the lotting principle is oppressive and cruel, and deleterious to the health of the con victs, humanity will demand a return to tho old system, while a proper econenty will require tho erection of a new penitentiary at some point where the labors of its inmates may prove profitable to the State, and not an endless expense to it. Wiiat does ‘‘Sei.aii” mean V—The Rihi.iatiik’ A Su’ka says: “The trans lators of the’Rible have left the word Selah, which occurs so often iu tho Rsftlms, as they found itpmd of course the English reader often asks Ids min ister or some learned friend what it means. Herder regards it as indicating a change of tone; Malheson, a musical tone, equiv alent perhaps to the word repeat. Ac cording to Luther and others it means sileuce!
