Mr. S. Z. I/all: Dear Sir.—You requested
me lo write pou my experience with your
Improved Colton Gin Feeder, nnd in compli
ance with said request I will elate that alter
using themachine two season* with careful
aud close observation, nnd experimenting
with it impartially, l nm prepared to say un
hesitatingly that it i*n completeniicce**. I
regard it os among the hexi inventions of the
age: and no cotton planter who is aide to
have a Gin House and Gin nhouid be without
one. I consider it fully worth the money you
ask for it; several of try neighbor* having
teen mint at work, proceeded to purchase one
immediately, and would not now be without
the maohine for ninny times the money paid
for it; and quite a number of other* intend
purchasing one for the next crop.
Your machine save* the labor of from one
to two hand*, according lo the site of the
Gin; one band only is necessary lo attend to
th« Qla and Feeder, while the old way of
feeding by hand requires one hand to stand
hy Ihe breast of the Gin, nnd from one to two
hand* to carry the seed cotton to the Gin. All
that he* lo be dono by the hand attending Ihe
machine i* simply placing Ihe seed ie Ihe
Hopper attached to it, which ia fed lo the Gin
with the most perfect regularity—thus pre
venting ihe breaking of the roll, and enabling
the Gin to cut tally one half more in the day.
My flfty-snw Gin, driven by four mule*, has
ginned 100 pouuda of eeed cotton in five min
utes, wbita running at the usual and uni
form apeed. I can an.'cly say that I can gin
eight bslee in ten hours.
The life ef a Gin I think ia fully doubled
bythe uee of the machine, aa it cleans the
seed cotton of rooka and other hard Bubstsn.
ces, which la thrown into the Gin when fed
by hand, aoon destroying tho aawi. I will
further add that vour machine ia the .mom
■imp e, Icaat liable tc get out of order, nnd
will last longer than any machine combining
•o many advantages I Imve seen; and 1 think
the draft added lo tho Gin by attaching tho
machine ao Utile a* lo ba impurcetiblo when
the feed ia regulated aoo* to cut the snuio
amount of eouou aa when fed by band; but
or course when more is ginned it must be at
Ibe expense of more power; but thin would
be tho case with or without Ihe miohine. To
eay the moot no planter will ever find fault
with an inereaae of draft to cnablo him lo
shorten lha ginning of the crop, ai each day
saved ie equivalent to about ten dollar*, aud
1 consider Ibe lint enhanced in value tally n
half cent a pound ovar hand fed, which aloue
ia quite a consideration.
Yours truly,
SIMON 8. THOMAS.
