tica of interests and affection. For the past
fo* years our State has. been convulsed in
financial ruin. From Tarioas canjca every
branch of business has- cmlerislly * suffered.
Thc-plough, the loom and the anvil for a
while seemed to have been hushed to silence,
and agriculture, with its usual erect brow
and effulgent step, stood drooping before the
withering blasts of. fa lien fortunes.
Ilowever gloomy the picture may appear,
we should not despond, wo should cheer up,
with strong arm and bouyant spirit, with fix
ed and determined resolutions to override
all future obstacles. The paths of prosperi
ty are open before us. The fields of living
green are inviting tbe hardy and industrious
yeoman to partake of their hospitality and
promise an abundant recompense for all ex-
penditures of energy, time and labor, we
should bear in mind that land and labor is
the real wealth of a nation. Let agriculture
be honored as it should be, and let laboi^ as
sert that dignify which belongs to it, and
lwill.BU^et no shock or barrier against
geueral prosperity.
.. Let as throw aside idlenjps and specula
lions, and go earnestly lo work and wc will
soon loose sight of crashes and financial
earthquakes. When temporary embarrass
ments occur, it is well to look into its causes
a - *-’»• - - Vibie avoid arccurrence, and with
irative energies of tho people a
healthy’ solution willisoon^be worked out.—
Georgia, jour grand old commonwealth, like
brilliant constellation will rise proudly
her majesty and present a bright example
to her surrounding satelites. Agriculture
will drive his teams With, a cheery spirit in
tne certain assurance that the harvest is his
own. Art, science and literature, will occu
py their proud eminence and dispense their
blessings on man. Oar land will be beauti
fied and adorned with the cottages of honest
yeoman, living as good neighbors near the
field they cultivate. Will count with honest
exultation the sweet fruits of/aitliful hus
bandry. To this end we hope soon to arrive,
that all may enjoy a happy, prosperous and
contested future. Then we will have reason
to exclaim in divine language .* 4 ‘Many
daughters have done virtuously, but thou,
Georgia, excellest them all.”
