There is something in this grand moral ex hibition that makes an American feel proud of his race, and inspires him with new hopes for his conntry’s future. What a lesson for demagogues! What a rebuke for tyrants l— A just God must smile approvingly upon such acts, and prosper the peoplo who are thus capable of rising superior to revenge and all the fierce passions of their nature.— By this one simple act the Conservatives of Teuncssee have acquired a moral power that will be felt in every portion of this unhappy country, and do much to restore the long- lostspirit of fraternity of which wo had feared our people had takeu an eternal farc- . _ _ Uggg Bonsratalatery AUress of the fon- seriatire Coiniuitiee—Jlagnanioi If tor the TufffiisheA. Nashville, August ti. To the People of JDuvidton County : . We, tho Executive Committee in the re- cettt election, congratulate you upon the sig- nal triumph of tho great cause Which was achieved at the ballot-box on Thursday.— The lirst Thursday of August, in Tennessee, in each alteriiate year, has ever been an im portant dky in our annals. But that rhich has just passed had a far deeper illustration, from the momentous Issue at stake. The sun rose that day upon one hundred thous and white men iu the State, who, for more titan four, years have groaned uuder the iuo8t*greviuus pespolisui. Il set that even ing in all its brightness upon the tame men, Tree, degenerated, and disenthralled. This solemn result w^y> wrought out not by pow er—not by force, bui by the ca m verdict of public opinion—by the ballot—by the re awakened sense of justice. In the hour of victory, while we have no language adequate to express our joy, we nave no words of vul gar exultation to utter* Nuch an expression would bij^inar the dignity of the occasion. The iasutnn the late . election was enfran* chisement—there was no other. The result is iu our favor hy an overwhelming majority And now; if we have been heretofore pro scribed, let ns not proscribe vigain. If w< have been oppressed, our revenge is com plete iu the succesi of our cause. We can afford to be magnanimous, moderate and tolerant, and in fact, we are bound to be so in conformity to our professions. Those who oppressed us are our fellow-citizens—a large part of the population and wealth of the State. We and they are still to dwell together! foe weal or woe, and it will take the united exertions of all to redeem the State Irfan the evils that oppress her. We respectfully urge upon our friends every where the execrcise of the virtues of tolera- tion and charity,4hd to forget as early as possible, all the quarrels and feuds of the past. Revenge is mortal, but forgiveness will outlive him who permits himself to be controlled by it in this hour of general joy. ithem of eve at uk ... . , noon the moon will lithon llte earth,* etjuatj. rj r _ i ninstance which waver occnnS- out muHtwI-.ntxnosjiheriu on ami at 2 |j, in, twine" : draw from the earth’* centre wiBe«t the sun nml moon in the saow’ . l ight ascension. Colonel Fulton, of Uie Athens Banner, also suggested the propriety of all the editors of the State giving their views for the benefit of the committee. At this juncture it was generally believed that the Convention had done all that it could do at Ibis session, and it was pretty well un derstood that they would adjourn to meet again in Macon. But Mr. Brobston, of the Madison Examiner, after a short but forcible speech, moved that tho Convention adjourn to meet again at 8 o’clock, r. m., to hear the reports of Committees, and to perfect a per manent organize lion. lie subsequently with drew his motion, when a discussion ensued in which Gen.
