The Coalition Party—Another Blast'
from the LSCrangh Reporter.
A combination is saitl to be on loot,
of which Joseph E. Brown is-claimed
to bo the evil and moving spirit, to
divide and scatter the Bemoccatic par
ty. It is to be a coalition of the^Rad
ical party and unsound, weak-kneed
Democrats, and th» Atlanta Intelli
gencer, it is stated, n statement we
cannot believe, is to he the chief or
gan, for which purpose it is now said
to he in training. *Ve say these are
the rumors rile in the political atmos
phere. The leading ideas are. to force
Georgia to accept the iulUmous fif
teenth amendment by threats of tni!i~
tary despotism, audio reseat the ex
pelled negroes of the .Legislature,
which, if not done, will bo made the
slogan cry tor remanding the State to
military authority. For out*, we s.iv
damn the infamy ami the plotters oT
treason upon the light* ol this State.
The Georgians can never willingly as
sent to this degradation ot themselves
and Stale, and every man who en
gages in such a vile coalition for t! e
ruin ot this old Commonwealth should
be lield up to eternal execration !
Ti at cratty obi political villain,
Joseph E. Brown; that treacherous
political trickster, Kulns ]>. 1 hillock
and those weak, imbecile, bought up
Democrats, who would seli their souls
for a “mess of pottage,” ami thin,
mean atufi though it be, are willing,
for a few crumbs of- musty p lilieal
bread, to sink upon their base and
cowardly knees before the damnable
heresy of Radical cenuali/.-itioii, ami
bring this proud old State to degrada*
tion and her people to political ruin,
are s^iid to be the. maurial ot the new
party. This infamous coalition is not
to he developed until the assembling
of the Legislature. Tlieii, these (trail y
political villains are to open their Pan
dora’s box aud min Georgia, penct-a-
bly if possible; it not peaceably, then
at all hazards. i —^ .
If o\er there was a time when the
Democracy—the true aud honest men
• if the State—should stand firm, that
time is now. Scarcely twelve mouths
ago we routed tho despoilers ot our
State, and Georgia was redeemed and
regenerate* 1. The black stain of Rad
ical pollution, hr.-light abotit by the
sword and a tyrannical registration
and the counting ol the votes for Gov
ernor and members ol the Legislature,
was eradicate*!. The’ occasion f*»r a
quiet display *•! a sublime moral cour
age is upon iis, ami,'as true Georgians,
we cannot .falter in this hour of im
pending evil to ourselves and aU that
we bold dear as freemen.
11V tin? weakness of some of the
Democratic members ot the Legisla
ture at the last session, Georgia came
near adopting the fifteenth amendment.
Those Democrats displaced a timidity
and imbecility disgraceful to the State
and damning to themselves. By the
lash ol an outraged public opinion,
these men finally adjourned the Legis
lature without adopting that amend
ment. Now that a coalition iti in for
mation to force them to carry out the
behests ol Radical despotism, will these
rneu have the courage* to resist the
threats of party power at Washington
City ? For one, we prefer military
rule, military despotism or military
cruelty in any shape, to tire dishonor
entailed by a cowardly and base sur #
render of principle.
Wo despise the familiar terms used
so llippanlly by while-live red men
when they talk ol “accepting the sit
uation,” “acquiescing in the legisla^
lion ol Congress,” We neither
“accept” nor. “acquiesce.” We sub
mit only because we have not a gun in
our hand to resist successfully tin* ty
ranny of CpngrefS. * 4 Accept !”—no
true man of Georgia “accepts” the
condition of affairs in this State. “At»
quiesce!”—no, no, no; never! The
miserable creature that drags bis cow
ardly carcass through the “ wind and
tide” of Badu-al infamy; trembling
with fear and the occasional uprisings
of his own seared conscience; with
ins soul the slave of - his enemy ; his
heart liealing within his own bosom
the silent monitions ot life own base
cowardice; we-say .he—and lie alone
—“ accepts” ami “ acquiesces” in the
foul damnation of Radical despotism.
Oh ! treacherous beings that they are !
criminal to themselves and basely ig
nominious to all posterity; creeping
live things that wiggle with sickly
motion in their own puLrid slinie and
fetid corruption.
Snch are the kind of miserable crea
tures who are to form the basely con
ceived Coalition party of Georgia.

infamous political trickster j Rufus 13.

depends on your action, and what you

I beard the President declare, in my

that it was never intended to give
