most truthful and racy account of bis adven
tores, and what be saw and heard. His
readers will probably discredit hair that he
says about Nashville, the Cave, and Chatta
nooga, bat that “finest and most thrilling
burst *of eloquence” at the banquet, and the
farther statement that he “nover imbibed of
the circean cap daring the whole trip” will,
of course, be reoeived as unadulterated troth.

Pnor. Wuitsitt.— Rev. W. H. Whitsitt, re
cently elected Professor in the Southern Bap
tist Theological Seminary at this place, will
be remembered by many of our citizens as
having some years ago boen a student at Ibe
Seminary, and frequently preaching in sev
eral of our churches He is a native of Ten
nessee, and a graduate of Union University
of that State. During the war he waa Chap
lain to a Confederate cavalry regiment. Alter
attending tbe University of Virginia, for some
time, he spent two years at the Seminary
here, in Greenville, and afterwards two years
in Germany. He is a man of remarkable
ability and thorough and extensive scholar
ship, and a very interesting and impressive
preacher, and with his preposseessiug ap
pearance and agrceablo manners, will form,
in every way, a valuable accession to oar
oommnnity. —Greenville (S. C.) Enterprise.
