county, is the nominee lor Governor. He
was for twenty year-4 a member of Congress,
and for several ter mi Chairman of ihe Com
mittee ou Ways and Means. D. D. Lewis
and W. H. Forney are nominated for Con
gress from the State at large. All the nomi
nations are satisfactory. The resolutions are
as follows:
The Democratic and Conservative people
of Alabama, in convention assembled, do re
solve and declare.
First. That the Radical and dominant fac»
tion of the Republican party in this State
persistently, by false and fraudulent repre-

Fourth. That civil remodics for the pro-
teetion of civil rights are provided by the
common law to all raoes of men of this Stale,
and added to these are social remedies for
social wrongs which every race and olass of
men are properly left fres by the laws to
adopt for themselves, so that the negro race
has the same means of protecting itself against

A meeting of a portion of the Democracy
of Worth county was held at Isabella on
Tuesday -lib inel, for thepurpose of selecting
dslegates from each district of the county to
attend Ihe Democratic Convention to be held
in Albany, Ga., bn the 20th of this lost.
Upon motion. Captain M. P. Jones was
called to the Chair, and in a few appropriate
remarks expressed the object of the meeting.
Upon motion the Chair was instructed to
appoint delegates from eacb district to attend
paid Congressional Convention, and the fol
lowing was the result :
Sixth District—Daniel 8. Sumner and John
C. Sumner.
