am pleased with her, and according to your request!

Ido not hesitate to aay that she is the fastest and

Albany Naei—Some »»ks ago, Mr Nor.
delivered a lecture here, in which he
poiuted oat the a.any tu.l important adieu.
U«e. Atlanta u ■ lainfutnring city.—
' The lecture wu plain, common-sense talk.
swegemlre than the contrary, not ex.
hnnstiie because of the limited time silottsd
to n I centre, nod ynt sufficiently eompreh.cn.
sire to rxcile fan her inquiry by an; who
might eortsmpteie bursting in Atlanta man-
ufacluring stock.
The lecture wns published in one. perhapt
nil. of the cily papers, and n lor^e c
of copies printed for distribution. -Slt-le pos-
■this that the priocijd*"object of Ihe lectin-*
was to invite cspitol tram abroad to .msoti
factnres here. Ifso. the object was .a moil
laudable one, and worthy of success; hut
"the gods help thotr who help themseiies,‘
and would it not be well for the people ot
Atlanta to show their faith by their works,
abtl put the ball in motion? - It is 'hard to
win converts by preaching one dooiriqyand
practicing another. Exump'e is far more
effective than precept.
When Col. Tift submits his plan of direct
trade to the business men of Europe, and so
licits their capital for the prosecuiiou of the
enterprise, be will, doubtless, be met with
the question : "how much will your people
risk in this enleepiLe ? ’ "We are poor,"
he may answer, "we have no money to
Invest, but 1 esn demonstrate by these tig-
urea that it will be a payiug investment to
you who have a superabundance of capital."
"It is rather singular," the; will think.
Ihal t people having so much valuable pro
duce lo ship, soil expect In Import so much
offoreigu freight manufactures, should be
unable to invest anything in the means of
ransporlation."
So with Atlanta and Iter prospective mau-
ufactoriis It will not <lo for her citizens
to plead lack of capital while her two, three
and four-storied blocks of brick, her expen
sive private residences, her church buildings
her Capitol her Kimball House, her many
miles of street-railroad, her $300,000 water
supply in course of conslrnotion, Ac, nil
sprung up as though .by enchantment, with,
n n few years, declare most emphatically
that capital can' be obtained when really
wanted.
K Mr- Kimball put the cost of the Kim-
louse into a cotton factory, the latter
would hardly have sold for less than $100,.
000, .or yielded a less annual dividend than
10 per-cent.; while h.nndreda of hands would
have found work in, and thousands of mouths
food from that factor^,
w, while there are a large number
of housea for rent, and not a few for sale, the
building of both slore' houses, and dwellings
is progressing, and that too, when the pro
prietors esnnot reasonably expect a nett in
come of 10 per cent, on the cost; for rent is
taueh less here' than ir, Augusta or Savannah.
Would it .not be belter lor the real estate
owners aud the future of the city, for agreat-
er demand for stores and dwellings to be cre
ated by the construct ton of-* few factories ?
Though a- stranger here, 1 have somewhat
studied the situation, and 1 am fully persua
ded that its location near the Hue dividing
the mineral and the cotton regions, its prox.
unity and accessibility to both, its he&llhful*
ness', its mildness of temperature in winter
and Sommer, its transportation facilities by
railroad to every point of the eompwss nod
every section ot the country, combine to reu
der.it the most eligible manufacturing center
for. all l hot section bounded by Tennessee,
North Carolina, the Atlantic, the Gulf aud
the Mississippi.

Weekly : “The war parly i» France employs
in private language that seems the extruva*
agance of bombast. Newspapers may be
cautiously silent, and ministers yielding and
submissive, but the politicians of the cafes
and clubs have no hesitat on in confessing
the future policy of aggression. France,
they assert, is gathering an army that noth
ing in Europe tan resist. All its youth and
manhood are to be converted into soldiers,—
Io some unguarded moment they will strike
Germany. The war will be one of unsparing
severity, and if they f*iV Paris shall he
razed to the ground and the name of France
b» b ntted out from among the nations.”

ports him,—and to set him ou*bis legs again,
to utter more blasphemies—there arises an
other question, Let .11. W. Beecher appear
next Sunday on his bouncing-board,in “Ply
mouth Cbnrch,” and take for his text a less
disreputable man than he is, vix.: “J’ow know
hoic it is yourself /” Then, let all who admire
his teachings of the past, and, like Tilton,
think he is yet “a great God like man,” ap
pland him au.4 stick |o bin?- Theft thp lines

be dropped—and we can drop Beecher Let
him cease to pretend lobe io any sense a
Christian. Let him invoke Cupid Ip make
him, once more, agreeable to new friends ; or
in bis meetinghouse, offer sacrifices to As-
tsroib. Theft “the wayfaring iftan, thorgh a
fool,” will neyer mistake him.
But it is a duty we pannot disregard to try
and save the country we live in, and the so
ciety from which no citizen can separate
himself altogether, from its most imminent
perils. Human society is not the creation of
man. It is the work of God. It ts built, by
Qou, on the family. Messrs. Beeeher and
Tilton, like a great many men cleverer than
either of them, have tried to reconstruct the
creation of God, and to rebuild society,
but on the brothel; but, when built, tae
brothel cannot be substituted for the family
without, just so far, undermining society. —
Messrs. Beecher and Tilton can give up iheir
own families, or swap them off, according to
their Socialistic theory of “attractions and
destinies,’’ and can gt> oif into the other kind
of house bunting—and society, so for from
suffering, will-'be relieved There is oue
