“ Emigration Agents.*’ Their operations ar.
as secret aud stealthy as the machinations ot
conspirators, or the diabolism of a Radical
League. They subsidise leading negroes,
and tbroogb them persuade the more ignor
ant of the race that they will be vastly bene
fited by emigrating to Arkansas, Mississippi
or Teaas, and that for something leas than
half fare on the Railroads they will be trans
ported, and asanred homes and profitable
employment. They generally prefer families,
as Bucks are unreliable and not to saleable
in tbe Western markets. They are too apt
to leave at the very first moment of dissatis
faction.
Families are induced to sell out their stuff
to raise money enough for the passage, and
for low rates are huddled into transportation
coaches, and steamed away to tbe far-off
stranger-land, where they are made to be
lieve there is plenty of money, less work and
a higher destiny for the ntgro. On eaeh one
thus sent these agents are paid Ten to Twenty
Dollars—half by the Railrotd companies and
half by the parties engaging the labor.
When these Emigrants get to their destina
tion, they are to all intents and purposes told
into servitude till all the expeneea of trans
portation are refunded, including the fees of
the Ageots.
sourawaaTiui oiosoia
Is now thought by these conspirators snd
“negro traders," to bo a splendid field for
their operations. The defeat of Whiteley
and the overthrow of Radicalism, produced
some diseffection among the negroes, and
the discontent engendered by the lying
harangues before the election, and intensified
by defeat and apprehension, is seised upon
by the agents, aggravated by their hired
subalterns, and shaped into a bug-a-boo to
frighten the pool devils into easy terms and
quick trades. By these disreputable means
many have been induced to enter into poei-1
live engagements to migrate to Texas and
Arkansas, at a very early day.
It has coroe to sur knowledge that trans
portation has been arranged for
0X1 THOUSAND
from Dougherty and Baker. It is well known
in this community that two or three gentle
men have for some time been engaged in the
business—Georgians and citixens of this lo
cality—and rumors have been rife that they
were succeeding to a marvelous extent iu
persuading some and demoralizing others
These rumors were denied by the agents,
and the facte we are now possessed of arc
also denied ; but we bare the very beet and
highest authority for the etatement that
transportation has been engaged or is being
now negotiated for, for one thousand from
this vicinity.
For tbe want of time and apace, we are
compelled to close this article here. Next
week we shall pursue the subject with vigor-
ous suggestions to p'antera and laborers, and
especially with proper counsel to Ibe colored

We want no “flank movements"—straigh
ahead on the lino that wrought our achieve
ment on the 3d inst., is the word, and we in
sist that it be panned along the line. Besides,
we go for banging the first dsmphool who
opens hia mouth for the payment of oar
former slaves. The Georgia while people
would rote down the proposition by 40,000
1 majority.
Tan But or Au—The biggest, jnieest
plum in that gloriou pie baked last Tuesday
by the Demoeraey of Georgia, wu the defeat
of Whiteley. We should have counted it as
only a half victory, if he bad not been beaten.
He has made himself more active and more
conspicuous in showing his hate for the white
people of this State than all the other Radi
cals in it combined. He has boldly placed
himself in opposition to their every interest,
and shown an insolent eontempl for their
feelings and prejudices, that was almost Sa
tanic. He boldly voted for, and as boldly
justified and defended bis support of the so
cial equality bill. In one word, he proved
himself our bitter enemy, and gloried in it.
That such a man should be eeut into retire
ment—driven from power and place which he
loved so well, is indeed eause for intent sat
isfaction. It is u refreshing to all decent
people as a June shower to the parched
earth.
