At last it is over—the treaty-
peace between Russia and Turkey ha*
been signed. A good deal of discus
sion, parleying, wrangling, etc., was

The Columbus Times says: The re
ceipts of cotton at the United States
ports, which heretofore hare been so
far behind those of last year, hav
now caught up, and to date are l,22l>
ahead. There is more of the staple
in the country now than hist season,
and the stock in interior towns is
much-larger. The total crop will
hence lie larger than that of Inst year,
which in round numbers was4.48Ti,00o
bales. We would not lie much sur
prised to see the total very nearly
equal to the crop of the proceeding
year, which was 4.GGCLOOO. The port
receipts thus far have reached 3,'Ah,-
931 hales.
A prominent New York com mis
sion house wrote to a leading ware
house firm, asking if the present low
prices would not liave Hie effect to
lessen ' acreage. They referred Hie
question to a large and sensible plan
