THE TERRELL COUNTY FAIR.
The Terrell county Fair will come
Off on Saturday, 4th'of May. A cor

Terrell county is'making. The ex

body to come down on tho 21st ami
22nd and see the first Fair of the

presence to the occasion, but to bring
their products along.
The Race Track.
The race track on the Fair Grounds
of the Southwest • Ga. Industrial As
sociation, will, when completed, be
otic of the finest in tho Southern
States. This is no premature conclu
sion. The work is being done in a
thorough anil effective manner; the
grading is splendid ; the curves arc
“beautiful,” and everything in order
to the eye of tlie true turfman.
By courtesy of Mr. Yankey, one of
our enterprising liverymen, we took
a ride over it a few days ago, ami in
looking on it could not help from say
ing, “Long live Jarvis ami his corps

THE BARNKSHOUSE
Mr. Merrick Barnes, proprietor of
this popular Hotel, contemplates the
erection of eight largo, comfortable
family rooms, on the east end of )ii 8
House, and leaving sufficient room in
the rear to add eight mote when nec
essary. He will also build an up
stair piazza; and erect large columns
in front, thus adding much to the gen
eral appearance of the. building. He
does tills in order to prepare himself
for entertaining Northern visitors
next winter, quite a large number
having promised to spend the season
In Albany. The enterprising spirit Is
commendable, and we hope Mr.
Barnes will meet with propcrcnconr-
agement.
Fine Wheal,
Tlie finest wheal we ever saw at
this season of the year was laid on
our table on Monday by Mr. Rome
Harris. He bail been to visit his fa
ther’s family near Warwick, and on
the return passed through the farm of
Mr. S. M. Hunt, and brought away a
bunch tire feet amt three inches high,
as a sample of the whole field. It is
well headed and looks beautiful. Mr.
Hunt is a good farmer, and has his
own smoke house.
We understand that Judge Wright
lias one of the tines! fields of wheat
in Southwest Georgia. It is all up
waist high, green and llourishing.
Rust has only touched it slightly, and
it is hardly possible for it to do much
damage. The Judge is an up-country
man and understands the grain busi
ness.

We wish the boys success." Capt.

Wortli Superior Court.
Tlie Spring term of Worth Superi
or Court convened on Monday morn
ing last, his Honor, Judge Wright f
presiding, Col. Fleming Solicitor.-
We were not in attendance, but learn
that the charge of the Judge was full
and comprehensive and to the point.
On account of Ihe absence of some at
torneys, the sickness of another one
largely interested in the cases on dock
et, and a number of olil eases in which
the judge ha;i been counsel, it was
thought best, under the recommenda
tion of the Grand Jury, to postpone
the business of the Court until the
Fall term in October. A few judg
ments were taken, but no cases liti
gated. The Grand Jury, Mr. W. L.
Lane foreman, was composed of good
material, and their few hour* work is
nn index to what they would have
done had the regular session of court
been held. Two true bills were found,
one agaiuHl a white man by tlie name
of Tye, for simple larceny, now in jail
in Albany, ami tin; oilier against
Dug Ford, col., for assault and battery.
Worth comity is in a good coudition,
financially, and we arc glad to ob
serve it. It is out of debt and has
seven nr eight hundred dollars iu its
treasury.
We are sorry wn could not meet

TO TIIK ORAM) MILITARY CONTEST AT
ALBANY DURING TIIK HfRINO FAIR.
Capt. Wight, of tlie Guurils, lias re- j
cently been lo Macon to confer with ;
the soldiery of that place upon the
subject of coming down to the fair in |
May and participating in the
ORAND CONTEST
for the championship and a prize of
two hundred dollars.
His visit was a pleasant one, liis
brethren “in arms”.of the Central
City doing all in their power to make
it enjoyable. The result of the trip
nan be summed up ns follows:
Macon Guards, an old war compa
ny, with quite a reputation—Capt.
Geo. Mason—are certainly coming.
Macon Cadets—(’apt. T. L Ross—a
sprightly company and agile as a cat,
are about positive they will come. The
hoys arc mostly engaged in stores,
and we hope the merchants will let
them off to he with the people from
whom they get so much sustenance,
viz: Southwest Georgians. The Floyd
Rifles may attend, aud if they do Cap
tain Cherry will run u tight race. The
Rifles is one of the oldest Macon com
panies. Macon Volunteers—Captain
Carnes—arc exceedingly nnxions to
come, and if nothing prevents, .will
pul in an appearance. It is the crack
of Macon, and it will he a pity if tlie
company can’t come. The Volunteers
acquitted themselves with great cred
it at Atlanta last fall.
EXPECTED.
Capt. B. R. Herty, of the Baldwin
Blues, will probably attend with his
company, and will show the world
what the Old Capital can do a la mil-
itaire. Capt. I. H. Adams, Putnam
Rifles, Eatonton, has a company whose
movements are like clock-work, and
will perhaps he here.
THE TltOMASVILl.E GUARDS,
who drilled so nobly and so well at
the Thomnsrille fair last fall, are ex
pected and we hope will come. Cap
tain Hansell will lie heard from soon.
Representatives of almost every
military company in the State will be
present—men distinguished by ball
and sabre during tlie war—and it will
be a “field day” for the soldiery of
the Empire State. Visiting compa
nies will bo carried over the South
western Railroad for one fair. Thanks
to Capt. Raoul.

Hickory Level. April 18. 1878.
Messrs. Editors: Yesterday was lo

“wild hunt” after a flsli.
Well, 10 a. in. found hitn at Col

Mrs. Willis. Mrs. Cross, the beautiftil
and charming Miss Maggie, and those
servicahle liliipntians, Masters George
and Butler, were all present, armed
and equipped and ready for a bite;
and these names constitute a full nuis
ter roll of our valiant and redoubta
ble company. Notwithstanding, the
ladies devoted a great portion of the
time up to two o’clock in preparing
dinner, and therefore assisted us but
little in catching fish, we had caught
ut that hour one hundred and seven
ty-five, and when we quit in the af
ternoon, more than Half an hour hy
the sun, we had caught three hundred
and ninety-one perch; and it was the
statement of all persons present that
they had never seen a finer average
in any large quantity of fish caught
in this section. The condiments for
onr fete champetrc. fisli excepted,
were supplied from the larder and
prepared liv tlie skill and taste of
Mr*. Willis, and were as good as heart
could wish. In brief, aside from Ihe
luxury of catching fish so rapidly, I
have spent few days in life more
pleasantly than yesterday.
‘‘Uj lion were cast in pleasaut place.*.”
The Crowd was agreeable, social
aud friendly. I should like to spend
many such days.
I poked my head out and took a
peep at the farm of Mr. Cross yester
day morning. He lias decidedly Hie

Wonderful Magnetism.
Tlie largest deposit of load stouo in
the country is said to be in our city.
It draws for miles and miles away,
and it is jmsitively irresistible. It is
occasioned by the immense concen
tration of cheapness, variety, and du
rability of the goods our merchants
sell. A good market to sell and buy
is u wonderful magnet. Our trade is
increasing; Albany is reaching out
and will not be put down. Fair deal
ing; square measurement; cheap and
good goods will always draw.
Our cotcmpornry of the Albany
News wants to know if our people
tire going to attend tlie Albany Fair
as Hie Albany people bare thcThom-

to attend our exhibition on the 23rd
