After a ten days’ jaunt with our
brethren of the Georgia Press, we re
turned home just iu time to find that
Jess had loaded the News with in

cerning the Fair, thus excluding any
thing like an account of our trip.—
This is well, as our people have .their
heads turned in that direction, and
the News lias a heavy part to play.—
Next week, wc shall say something of

to say, we had a glorious time.

we are perfectly justifiable in telling

they are “shown around” to the la- j

Worth County Crop New*.
We had a pleasant call from Mr.
W. J. Ford, of Worth, on Tuesday.
He reports all crops good in his coun
ty, and things moving along smooth
ly. Farmers are up with their oper
ations. Wheat is good : oats rather
small but doing well. Corn is look
ing fine, and doing its very best.—
Many fields have been plowc i over the
second time. Cotton, in some in- i
stances, is a little farther behind than
there is heed for, considering the fair
seasons we have had this Spring.—

We direct special attention of the
people of this section to the advertise

Fair this Spring will come up to the
usual high standard, or. if anything,

surrounding counties are all working
hi unity for the success of the exhibi

have. We liope a large delegation of
our citizens will go down. We really

The committees, and indeed all the
young men of the Club are bound to
make this one of the nicest and most

Death of Mr. K. W. Holcombe.
We regret to chronicle this sad
event which occurred on Saturday
last, at Tilton, on the B. & A. R. R.—
Mr. Holcombe has for some time past
been employed by Mr. II. H. Tift to
load his log carts. On Saturday
a new teamster was driving one of
the carts, and Mr. Holcombe was as
sisting him in attaching the heavy
log to the tongue, when the latter,
which was raised perpendicularly, by
the inexperience of the driver, flew
backward with terrific force, striking
him on the front of the head, crushing
it between the tongue and the log,
mangling it terribly. He died in an
nnconacious state about an hour af
ter the unfortunate accident. His re
mains were placed upon a hand car
and forwarded to this city, and were
interred on Sunday afternoon in the
city cemetery. Mr. Holcombe was
well-known in our community, and
was universally liked on account of
his many admirable qualifications.—
He had his faults; we all have them.
We believe he was as honest and
thorough a gentleman Peace to hie
