Sail Ileal Ii of l.lttli* Kvu Gilmer
A very sad accident occurred in
our city on Thursday nigld of last
week, which should impress all with
the importance of observing extraor
dinary care in handling kero-ene oil.
Little Eva tiilmer. daughter of Mr.
Joseph tiilmer, aged about live and a
half years, met with her death under
accidental circumstances, which are
extremely sad to relate. A young
lady who was staying for awhile at
the home of Mr. tiilmer, attempted
to pour nil from the can into a saucer,
by the light ofa lamp. Suddenly Hie
kerosene caught from the lamp flume,
and the can of oil was iiiimediatly
tired. The can discharged oil and
lire, little Eva, who was standing near
by, was completely drenched with
the tluid. and while undergoing the
painful burning, the poor little girl
ran out into the yard, jumped into a
tub of water, and thus the Humes
were extinguished. It was too late,
however. She was terribly burned.
I>r. .••friend, was called immediately
and applied the usual remedies. Imt
to no avail. Two-thirds of the surface
of the body was burned, ami such
cases never recover. Little Eva ling
ered until J a. m. Friday when she
breathed her last. She was hurried
from the Episcopal church on Friday
a fternoon.

A heavy crop of corn was planted :
and now presents a most nourishing
appearance. The splendid rain which
caiuc upon us on Monday gave new
life and vigor to the tichls. Should
good seasons continue we m:t\ expect

COTTON.
The hot, sunshiny weather lia-
proven a spleeial hi.‘-sing lo ih«

nothing has yet occurred to mar the
thrift of the plant. In -ome place-.,
