county, in September, 1872. The
Xr.ws contained no particular,> of il
about the date it was done, ami what
w*e can bear of it is very meagre and
from remembrance. It seems that
Heady and Fitzgerald had been living
in the county blit a short while, and
both were employed hy Mr. Billups,
the former as superiutenden on the
farm and the latter as common labor
er. They had

was thought best by friend to let them
keep up their little squabbles until
they both became tired and ashamed
of them. They were thrown in con
tact one day at the gin house, and

When reason is dethroned the de
mon of insanity stalks in and holds
bloody carnival. One of the most
revolting crimes ever chronicled iu
this country was that committed in
Sumter county on Monday evening
last. The murder of one person is
hideous ami frightful to the heart;
but %vhen it is the w holesale killing of
women and children the mind re
coils from the eonteinplutioii of it, and
shudders with frightful spasms of
shame and sorrow. The pen iiistiuet-

picturing of it, and nothing hilt the
insatiate blood-thirst of a sensational
journal can lay hare its every vein of
odious repulsi vciicss.
