As to the nomination of Hon. Win.

t-ould not have been nominated with

The Independent movoinont in
•orgia is as-ntuing huge propor
tions. There is an army of greedy
ispirants for office bearing down up
on the people and threatening danger
to the country. The Democratic par
ly must meet tin* enemy fairly and
ipiarely. and. hy united action with
:i11 respectable and honest people,
heck tin* evil tendency.
The only thing which hears the
i*ast semblance to a plausible pretext
for the action of the Independents is
what they call ••wire-working” in
conventions, by which they allege
that the will of the people is often
thwarted, and cross-road politicians
ml professional tricksters attempt to
shape popular (?) sen!intent.
Now. for this very evil none other
than these grumblers are to blame.—
No principle of the Democratic party
forbids a free exercise of public sen
timent and public voice. The party
ticorgia is composed of tin* intel
ligence of t lie State, and this iutelli-
icc is certainly expected to control
action. The people should speak
out boldly, and put forward leaders
whom they have confidence.
In order to accomplish a total de
feat of the sentiment uttered against
conventions by the disorganizes, wo
•arncstly hope that the Democracy of
•ach ami every county in the Second
roiigrossional District will hold pri
mary elections for delegates to the
Camilla Convention, pledged to-carrv
out the will of the ma jority . There
rtainly can he no objection to this
plan on the part of fair-minded men.
We do not desire the nomination of
my man for the important position
which Hon. Wm. E. Smith now bold
unless lie be first choice of the Dem-
racy of the District.
Such action as this which we stig-
•si would prove an overwbelinin.
blow to the respectability of an Iii-
Icpcudcnt movement, and put forev-
•r at rest the cry of ‘Stocked conven
tions.” l.ot there he no departin'
from Democratic usages.

This is the liveliest place I have
ever been in, in Die matter of excur

steamers are making money, yet the
fare is always very reasonable.

Ail excursion to the blacklist! banks

It is estimated by a shrewd calcula

Indies' fans sell here for one cent,

Huckleberries are Die great “stand

The other day a little boy, who
was seated at the table, and whose

down ids knife and fork, rested his
