ing. lie died of malarial fever. Mr.

open their hearts anil purses to the
appeal of distress anti suffering, nobiv

Tlie Court-housetsquare was illum
inated by appropriate mottoes, artist
ically and elegantly contrived by the
skillful generosity of Mr. L. Salinger.
The persevering diligence of the la
dles enlisted lip HjeTyorh, hid trans

lors of reception,l fragrant with the
perfume of garlands and flowera, and
enlivened by the bewitching smiles of
the vendors of ice cream and lemon
ade. The dulcet, tones of the Cornet
Bund pealed forth a ringing invita
tion, nml crowds upon crowds soon
filled every nook of the spacious
rooms and iiall.
Tlie young ladies, irrespective of
creed and nationality, were untiring
in their efforts to swell tlie proceeds
of the evening’s entertainment. Tlie
grateful prayers of the widowed
mother, of Ihe orphaned child, the
tenrs of the bereaved father, tin- bless
ings littered by the parched lips of
the fever-heated sufferers useriid tn

diction, “Well done, my good and

The voting lor Hie most popular
young lady was quite spirited. Miss
Eva Wcssolowskv was the recipient
of a handsome fait purchased for thK
purpose, and amidst Hie applause ot
Ihe audience, received it from the
hands of Mr. Lewis Arnlicim, who
was selected to present it. Mr. Jacob
Lorcii was caned by Sir. Joe Davis iu
tlie very happiest style. Mr. lunch
was declared Ihe most popular young
man, mid smilingly acquiesced.
The fiddle anil tile banjo put the
young folks into motion, and when
the clock struck two, everybody felt
convinced that it was hed-time.

Tlte Ladies Hebrew Benevolent
Association thought, fit to appoint me
their cashier at tlie ice cream festival
on the 29tli inst., given for the bene
fit of the yellow lever sufferers. I ap
preciated the honor and willingly un
dertook the task. The amount real
ized by tlie sale of ice cream and lem-
onude that night footed up tlie hand
some sum of $103.85; and I turned
over to the Chairman of the Commit
tee $92.85 cash and $11 in due hills.
These due bills were given for money
borrowed front tlie aforesaid fund
and were willingly advanced by me,
by consent of all concerned, to swell
the proceeds of the evening’s enter
tainment. Sinee then it has come to
my kuotvledge that David Robinson,
a minor, and young man of dwarfish
and insignificant, statue, lias circulat
ed a report that the iinoiiey thus bor
rowed lutil not becit nceo'tt'nfed for;
and I herewith publicly denounce hi:
statements as utterly untrue and un
founded, and malicious, willful slan
der. I was constantly tit my post in
a separate room, siiiTonndeil by the
ladies of tlie association, and did’ not,
nor could therefore lake part in any
of the amusements of the evening;
