Thc Hop given to the Guards Inst
Thursday evening, by Lieut. N. F.
Tift, at tlie residence of Mr. W. E.
Mitchell, was an exceedingly brilliant
ami pleasant entertainment, and from
the hearty cnjoyubloness and good
humor of the oecasiou we are con
strained to put it down as an event
that will lie renieinliered a long
while. A large crowd was present,
and saltan! lent kept up an echo to
the strains of tlie lively music. Ev
erybody, after quite a long “summer
spell” of dullness, was prepared to
enjoy and in the humor to accept and
go heart and soul into the pleasures
of the occasion. Tlie ladies were
dressed in that style which their
gruuated taste and refinement dic
tates, and, of all times In Albany so
ciety, there was a total absence of
shoddyism and over-dazzling display.
Refreshments were served about
twelve, ami enjoyed liv all, and es
pecially by that party in tbe corner.
Tlie Cuban, by the “tlutc-like
smoothness'' of a lone banjo, about
three in the morning, was pleasure
throughout, and the waltz of an
hour was simply gliding melody of
twinkling feet.
Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell were un
tiring in their, devotions to the many
guests, and Lieut. Tift was “every
where at the same time” paying at
tention to all.

The Dawson Journal informs us
that the Terrell county Fair Associa
tion. at a meeting held on the 7th
inst., decided to postpone the Fall
Fair indefinitely. As soon as this ac
tion was taken, a member of tlie As
sociation rose up and said, “Now, let
us all go to the Albany Fair.” Cor
rect. Get ready your farm products,
yonr tine horses, mules, cows, calves,
hogs, etc., iu fact everything worth
eeing, or that will in any way go to
how the resources of our section, aud
bring llicin over. Albany, Dougher
ty and other counties will be glad to
-ee the Terrcllites in force here, aud

itatiou to come.
Uuivanl nod Upward.
Even so, amt we are glad of tlie
fact. Albany is going to have a
school building, equalled but by few
in tbe Slate. It will he two stories,
25x50, nnd will be surmounted by a
beautiful cupola. It will be built In
tnndorn style, and will contain recita
tion rooms, class rooms, society hall,
library hall, etc. The second story
will be so built that it can be thrown
into one large room or chapel. It
will be the work of Mrs. A. Sterne,
and will lie erected just in the rear
and along side, of her present build
ing, and will have a beautiful front
age on Monroe street. We hail the
prospect with pleasure, and thoui-
ands of doliaro can be saved annually
by the education of the daughters of
