Seniie and Nonsense.
A sham i*oo—Aflccted contempt.
Who ran understand a cornstalk?
Missing men—Bad marksmen.
The bcladcholv days have cub.
Squashes arc rut gonrtl this season.
Song of the cliccsc: “Will yon love
me when I mould ?”
Do tish talk ? Certainly, out in Col
orado, Tike’s Teak.
v lottery investors always look out
^or the number won.
Strange anomaly, is it not. that a
fill over-coat should have a stand np
collar?
The South Hill man calls his wife’s
ftlpC teeth “tilings,’’ because “they are
nor what they seem."
v The Albany ./oMriml hasdiscovered
a man whose bead is a> thick as the
leaves pf Yallambrosa.
The worst thing about a mosquito
is its soliloquy as to when and where
it hail belter settle down and bite.
" It is said that mosquitoes' are bred
upou the waters. In that ease they
>ill return again before many days.
Two Japanese babies are hitched
tAgdlhcr at the shoulders. The moth
er rejoices to see them so highly con
nected.
"The.grand and awful difference be
tween a tree and a bore is—hurrah,
now !—the tree leaves iu spring, and
the bore, why, he never leaves.
.There is more unadulterated joy
over the capture of a solitary rnosqui-
t»on the inside of tlic uettiug than iu
circumventing the milliou and nine-
tjbonc on the outside.
’Krs. Berkley, who went ou tlie re
cent, .excursion to Niagara Falls, re
turned a disappointed woman. She
thinks the roar of tlic cataiact slim
persimmous alongside of her old
man’s snoring.
It,requires great moral strength
and teuacitv of purpose to enable a
man to sleep till seven o’clock iii the
moruiug, tv lien au industrious tty has
decided that he had belter get up at
Iptlf-past four.
' When a man has a hole in tlic toe
of his socks, and is pulling on a light
bool, aud the. socks work up around
his instep, then it is no time to ask
him. his private opinion of Tauthcisni
as an orthodox doctrine. *
’ ” That “Taller Disease.’
The Albany correspondent of the
Savannah .Vcn» says under this head:
As so much is being said by the
press of tlic State about the “yellow
disease," iu connection with South,
west Georgia, l may be pardoned if I
put “my oar’’ in also. It is the big
gest kiud of a perversion of facts to
sav that the disease is yellow fever.
That it is a dangerous type of fever,
no one pretenus to deny; but it is
neither contagious nor has it ever as
sumed the form of an epidemics
There have been cases of it in
Dougherty, Lee, Calhoun, and. per
haps other counties, but in no instance
has it attacked a person of soundeOn-
dilution. It is aggravated bilious ft*-
ver, and nothing more. I know a
young man who had this fever three
years iu succession, aud to-day he
could give Col. Vincent under hold
and throw him every time, aud that
is saying a good deal for bis strength.
A report oi this kind is calculated
to do widespread and lasting injury
to this section, as it will deter people,
from seeking homes among u» who
would otherwise do so. If the Con-
tlilnlion must have sensational arti
cles the “twelve or lifteen able” ought
to at least confine themselves to facts,
and not rumors gathered from Thom
as, Bichard and Henry.
The Confutation photographs tbe
Georgia Greenback patriots in this
artistic style. We have never seen a
heller likeness. It says:
The leaders of this movement pre
tend to be so sincerely in favor of fi
nancial reform that they cannot wait
for the Democracy to succeed and
cannot trust tlieir pet theories in itdl
bands. The truth is, they care less
ter JI «a success of green baekism. than
they do for their own personal suc
cess., They are ambitious. They want
dfficC They want place. They.Chirst
for the salary of a Congressman aud
refuse to be comforted in any other
way. . In their greed for office they
are willing to compass the ruin jof
the Democratic party, although they
know that the defeat of the Democ
racy means the defeat of the green
back party. They ntay succeed in de
luding a few, but iu the cud there
will not lie an honest voter in the
country who will not deplore the
movement. It is utterly without the
shadow of an excuse.
