THE CREDIT BUSINESS.
(From the Savannah Morning Neu*, Not. 27,187.1.
We have often stated in these col
umns—not oftener, it would appear,
than is absolutely necessary—that it
Is a waste of time, paper and postage
stamps to order the Morning News
without enclosing money, draft or
post office order to pay for it. Only
a few daya Rgo, we received a Hat of
u dozen or more good names, forward
ed by a friend ill Southern Georgia,
accompanied hy a request to forward
the paper, and the gentlemen whose
names were oudosed would remit on
receipt of the flr*t copy thereof. We
are extremely sorry that we are una
ble to accommodate our good friends.
The credit system is well enough in
various branches of business and in
these times, but in the publishing bus
iuess it would necessitate the opening
of thousands of small ledgeraceounL-,
the half of which, in tho end, would
be next to impossible to collect. In
refusing to Jill such orders, nothing
further from uvr intention thnn to
doubt the integrity of those making
the request. Wc aro simply adhering
to a rule, so far, wo linve' found to
work so exceedingly well that we
cannot he prevailed upon to break it
in favor of any one. Wc inaugura
ted the cash system in onr business
several year* ago, and it lias saved In
us thousands of dollar* annually, the
loss of which would bankrupt its as
it has bankrupted many worthy pub

this We have nothing to say. We
know that there are tiewspaper-

their business, and wc also know that
inch papers frequently fail into tin-
inhospitable clutches of the Shorifl.—
If the Morning News is worth paying

Dear News:—Hearing so tnueh of

Americas I had the misfortune to get

left for that State by the W. & A.

looked dull and desolate. Next place

stricken city, Memphis, from where I
write. The quarantine has been
raised, and hundreds of refugees are
flocking back. The fever Is at an end,
only fifteen cases to-day and five
deaths. A very heavy frost fell last
night, and lo-dav is cool with pros

good rain will clear the place of all
the fever.
