Good Farming.
Mr. Wm Broadawny and his son-
in-law, Mr. (J. T. West, did some
good farming this year. The latter
was up to sec us a few days ago, nnd
told us about it. They rented the
old Strozer place, adjoiuing theirs,
and made on it fifty-five bales of cot
ton, one thousand bushels of corn, po
tatoes without number, oceans of field
peas, clr., etc., all without cotton seed
or gunno, mid with only five mules.
Mr. West remarked to us: “I don’t
want to hear our young men talk of
going to Texas anymore.” Sensible.
Stay in Southwest Georgia, and if
you work rigid there is a living and
it good profit on a farm. Wo would
like to hear from other fanners.
Charley Demont.
Wo arc glad to note tlie prosperity
of Hint enterprising young merchant,
Mr. Charley Demont, of Camilla. He
keeps a first class establishment, and
is well patronized. His restaurant is
always supplied with the best anil
choicest of edibles, and Douglass, the
rook, knows how to “tlx up" things
in a toothsomo and savory mannor.

Letter from America*.
Amedicus, Ga., Nor. 25,1878.
Business has fallen off to some ex
tent during the last few weeks, due
doubtless to tho decline in cotton.—
Nevertheless, our streets usually pre
sent a lively appearance, and our
merchants have no cause for com
plaint. Tho cotton receipts at this
poiut are gratifying so far, and the
buyers and warehousemen anticipate
larger receipts than over before.—
Some put tho figures at fully 30,000
bales, though that, perhaps, is an over
estimate. The interest of tho people
here is just now centered in the ru
mored sale of the Brunswick A Al
bany Railroad. It has long been a
desire of our citizens to have a branch
of that road extended from Isabella
to Ainoricus; but the poverty of the
people and the unsettled condition of
the road has prevented this desire
from assuming a tangible shape.—
Now that the road has changed
bauds the matter is being revived,
and iliere is strong hopo that we are
ere long to be relieved of the monop
oly that has long oppressed us. A
public meeting has been held on the
subject, at which much interest was
manifested; but nothing definite has
vet been done. L.
