Hr D Neuman's Residence Boned
At 5 o’clock Tuesday' evening an
alarm of tire was heard in the direc
tion of Mr. D. Neuman’s house, ou
Residence street. All three of the
fire companies were soon in charge of
their respective engines, trucks, etc.,
and not many minutes passed before
they reached Mr. Neuman’s house.—
Too late, however, to save it from to
tal ruin, the whole roof being in a
tremendous blaze. The fire was caus
ed by a stove pipe in one of the back
shed rooms. By heavy and persistent
work of firemen and citizens, all the
furniture was saved. The house was
insured for 81200; furnituro and wear
ing apparel 81250, in ManliAtten and
Philadelphia Fire Association.
The firemen deserve much credit
for their successful efforts to save the
residence of Mr. J. W. Joiner, which
was just thirty feet distant from Mr.
Neuman’s. The wind was blowing
towards that direction, and at-times
during the progress of the tire the
smoke and flames seemed to entirely
wrap the east end of the near build
ing. The escape of this house is
considered most marvelous. Mr.
Joiner’s furniture was all removed,
and badly damaged. Ilia building is
insured, but furniture not.

much enjoyed and appreciated by the

front of the house about eight, and
delivered three volleys in honor of
the happy culmination of the marital
hopes of one of its most popular and
active members. After that they
presented arras, stacked and then filed
where congratulations and good
wishes were exchanged on all sides.
Very soon the folding doors were
thrown wide open and a well laden

lay smiling under their heavy loads

Burning oT the C—rthaeie la Worth County
At lint* Constitution.}
The following, taken from a pri

gives the particulars of the burning
oftbc court-house in Worth .county
on the night of the 26th instant:
Isabella, Ga., January 27.—An ad
journed term of onr court was to
iiave met to-day, but about twelve
last night some fiend ot hell burned
up our court house. My fHemls tried
to save mv office, but everything was
saturated with some combustible and
burned like tinder. I lost my law
library and a book-case of niiseella-
neous’works of value—presents from
my dead father—every note and ac-
conntbook of self and of every client
—every land paper—a clean sweep of
mine and every office of countynot
n paper saved. I had a portrait of
my father burned that nothing -can
remunerate me for. That elegant
pmtieman, able jurist and polished
uilge, Charles H. Crisp, wn9 to have
icld our court for Judge Wright.—
Several arc suspicioned, but no
jyoof. Worth county is ruined, and

hopes are entertained that Colonel
Fleming, our able Solicitor General,

Shockthg Injury from aa “Alabama Sling.'.
We made a few-remarks last week
about the “Alabama Sling” now in
frequent use by the boys of Albany.
We heartily discountenance the use
of these silent little weapons, mid

about them. Appropos, we copy the
following from the Columbus En

‘style” with tho young American*:

upper part of the city were engaged
in a fight, when sonic gentleman pass
ing parted them. One ol the hors,
to get even, took a parting shot at his

“Alabama sling.” Unfortunately lit
