Busin
at Fall ltiver
The Providence Journal records a
very nolirenble improvement in the
bu.iuCMS situation at Fall River, the
great cotton manufacturing centre of
the country. The feeling among man
ufacturer* there ia characterized as
•not onlv hopeful, in view ol better
prospects, but by present substantial
gains.' That this U something besides
mere rhetoric is plain when the writ
er adds: * We do not hear of one of
the new mills that has made less than
tlOUOU for the past quarter, and moat’ >■
of them have made very much more.
all,
The profile of the smaller milts tor
the quarter range from VIOROO to
tdQftOO; and there is not a mill in the
city that ia not better otT at the end
of the quarter than it was at thebe-
ginning.’ Contrasted with the dis
mal outlook of this time last year,
this is certainly very encouraging- It,
shows a quicker progress back to,
prosperous times, all things consider
ed, than even the most sanguine conld
look for.

In consequence of reports which , .
have been widely circulated that the
removal of Marshal Fitzsimoss, of
