We mentioned Iwl week the fact
that the Hoard of Trustee* of the
Suit University had accepted the
grounds and bnildings tendered them,
and appropriated two thousand dol
lars per annum toward the support
of this Institution. Thus this college
becomes a Branch College of the
State Unlveraltv and its Board have
elected Mr. O. D. Scott as President,
and referred the selection of the Pro
fessors and Teachers to the local
Board, subject to the approval of the
Chancellor, by whom also the course
of study in this college is to bo pre
scribed. The local Board will pro
ceed at once to organize the Board of
Instruction and have the Institution
opened at an early day. The build
ings now belonging to the coll ego a re
sufficient for present purposes, and
steps will be taken to add others In
ample time. With the advantages
offered for a high course of educa
tion, under teachers who have been
thoroughly tried and found flillv
competent and faithfkil, and this of
fered free, except the small entrance
fee, we may reasonably expect a Bill
school at ait early day, with a steady
increase as its advantages become
well known and appreciated. We
learn that board will be offered at
very reasonable rates. In many cases
scholars will arrange to board them
selves, and by forming messes, and
obtaining many of their, supplies
front home, the expense of their liv
ing will be very low. It is so easy
and convenient for farmers to bring
or send supplies from their homes
that we hope to see this plan adopted
to a great extent. The means of an
education sufficient for all the practi
cal purposes of the great mass of our
young -men arc thus placed within
their reach, upon the easiest possible
terms snd we believe that the neces-
-ity and great benefit of that educa
tion arc two well understood by our
people to need any arguments to in
duce them to avail themselves of it.
Kor those who desire to give their
sons a more complete course, we can
honestly say that they c*n *e as well
prepared here, by following the reg
ular course, for honorable admission
to the Junior Class of the University
as at any institution within onr
• knowledge. The records of the Stale
University for several years past will
prove the truth of this statement.
This is the beginning of a noble
and glorious wore, and we trust that
all our people will join heartily in
•loing all within their power to car
ry it on successfully.
' We append the ICeport of the Spe
cial Committee to the Boaitd of Trus
tees, which was adopted by the Board,
and U the basis of the agreement be.

1st. We dud that the South Georgia
Agricultural College, located at
Tbomasville, is ready to make good
title to real estate, consisting of land
and suitable buildings thereon; a pact
of the land consists of 120 acres in a
tract, fitly acre* of which is deemed
sufficient for educational purposes,
leaving seventy acres which the local
Board wish to sell in order to add to
their present buildings and to erect
a chapel. In the event of their union
with us, we are willing that they
should retain Mid seventy acres for
•aid purpose.
-aa. We find that the Southwest
Georgia Agricultural College, at
Cuthbert, is ready also to make good
title to real estate adequate for the
purpose in hand.
3rd. With the strictest economy
and with an earnest desire to extend
the benefits of the laud scrip fund as
widely as possible, we are enabled at
present to appropriate tifiUO annual

es of the Agricultural College located
at the seat of the University; and we
recommend the appropriation of that
sum to each, for the present; and
hereafter such sum to the extent of
our ability, and only such sum as will
not interfere wish the existing organ
ization and efficiency of the parent
college of the University at Athens.—
The f unds is in bonds and the high
rates of interests they now bear may
not be long continued, and onr in
come will then decrease; therefore
we confine this amount of aid to the
present; gratified that we are able to
furnish it at this time.
4th. We grant the aid and accept
the property on the same terms as in
the case of the North Georgia Agri
cultural College at Dahlonega, except
as hereinafter stipulated.
ath. The curriculum of study is to
be prescribed by the Chancellor of the
University, after conference with the
Presidents of the said colleges;
Gth. The Presidents are to be elect
ed by this Board, and to be paid out
of this fund of 12,000 now appropria

Board; and the professors and the
teachers to be selected by the local
Boards, subject to ratification by this
Board at its next ensuing session.
7th. No degrees, diplomas or certi
ficates of proficiency shall be conferr
