Worth county and their Slate.
Cap!. Henderson was a member ot
the Legislature from l\ orth during
the entire lime he was in service, ami
obtained furloughs to attend its ses
sions. Being over age. and legisla
tive duties pressing upon him. in the
fall of lg£S he resigned and returned
home.
Lieutenant William A. Greer. a
gallant officer, was then promoted to
ilie captaincv. Previous to this Lieu

In the spring of ls*H the company;

while there the Yankees threw a shell i 1

thought seized the shell atul threw it
over' the breastwork*, at the faint-
time inviting it to "lie there and swell
awhile.” This was an act of hero
ism seldom equaled and never sur
passed, tor in lifting the shell he rati
tile risk of being torn to atoms. Not
one man in a hundred thousand
would have performed the feat, and
yet lie claimed no merit for the act,
as he considered that he had merely
jierfoniied his duty.
While the company were in the
breastworks at Deep Bottom the Yan

the eharge was made a stalwart Yank

making strenuous efforts to till lii-

warlike undertaking he partially suc

‘ Then bringing the gun to a “charge,”
Hobby made a dash for his foe and
ran him over the works and tltre.-
ntbers with him. Looking up and
down the works lie saw the enemy j
ritated, swells, and sometimes bleed:
a swelling of the upper lip; occasional
headache, with humming or throbbing
of the ears; an unusual secretion of
saliva; slimy or furred tongue; breath
very foul, particularly in the morning;
appetite variable, sometimes vorar ions,
with a gnawing sensation of the stom
ach, at others, entirely gone; fleeting
pains in the stomach; occasional
nausea and vomiting; violent pains

situation at a glance, lie threw down
his gun, “shucked" all extra weight
and made a dash for liberty, while
the bullets of the foe chopped and
backed and split up the zephyr-

Fortunately, lie escaped without a
scratch. In speaking of the affair af

all stayed there as long as I did if
them Yanks ever would have cleaned

When the company surrendered at
Appomattox Court House, it laid
down eignteen guns.
