Tuesday evening last, was one of the

Death of Mr. Itassell.
Mr. 15. T. Bussell, u well-known
citizen of this county for a number of
years, died in Baker county* on Fri
day morning last, and was buried in
the Newton cemetery on Saturduy
afternoon at o o’clock. Mr. Bussell
was step-father of our friend, Albert
B. Jackson, and lus been for n num
ber of years .1. P. of the Oak Lawn
district in Ibis county. His strict in
tegrity and uniform courtesy bad
won for him a large number of
friends.

Mr. Ben F. Floyd, which occurred in
Lee county on Saturday last, of liem-
oi’i lugic-inalarinl fever, after an ill
ness of two days. Mr. Floyd was in
his twentietli year, an energetic, en
terprising and highly respected
young man. He was rapidly making
prominence as a successful farmer
and business mail, and bad won the
respect and confidence of nil who
knew hint, lie bad many friends and
relatives in this section who will
deeply regret his sudden and untime
ly death.

On Friday afternoon hist, the
ner-stone of the new African Metho
dist Kpiscopal chinch, on Washington
street, was laid with imposing cere
monies. Bishop Campbell, col'd, tvas
present. Rev. Noble, of Savannah,
was the speaker of llie occasion.
The two colored military compa
nies in the city—“Colquitt Guards”
and “City Blues,” also Charlie Mor
ris’ “Cadet*,” formed a street proces
sion, while the members of the con
gregation took the side-walk, nnd
inarched front the old clitircb.iip Jef
ferson street to Broad, and down
Broad to Washington, thence to the
church. A large number of people
were present, the Albany Brass Band,
white, furnished music, nnd the oc
casion was an interesting one.
This church, when completed, w ill
lie the tiucsl in the city, (of either
white or colored denominations); it
is hnill of brick, has a basement for
.Sabbath School purposes, besides llie
large room for public worship.
The colored people of llie city are
to be foiigrntiilnlcd upon the zeal
they have manifested in this work,
and the eminent success with which
their efforts have been crowned.

THE BOAT MACK
was very exciting. There were very
few lo witness it, anil it seems not to
have been very well known that it
would take place. But it was called
promptly, three entries being in llie
ourse: Messrs. X. F. Tift, W. K. Sut
ton anil Wash Mroczkowski, in single
nils. The race, ball' mile and re
turn, was very spirited and interest
ing. The boats hung close together,
and the pull was tight. The rare
was won by Nelson Tift, Mroczknws-
ki coming in second.

A dillieiilty occurred yesterday
morning at the plantation of llenry
Reynolds, Esq., in East Dougherty,
which will probably prove fatal to
one of the participants. Two negro
men, llenry West and <-tiinmitig, had
been hired as day laborers by Mr.
Reynolds to pick cotton. A quarrel
arose between them as to what par
ticular rows of cotton each should
take, llenry Wosl claimed one hun
dred of the best in the Held. Cum
mings objected, and a light followed.

dy, and plunging his knife deep into
his abdomen. West immediately fled,
and lias not been captured yet. Mr.
Reynolds had Cummings taken into
