JOHN FORSYTH, Chairman. Wm. T. Gould, Sec’ry. GEORGIA, Washington County. Jnlhe Superior Court of said County, Thursday morning, Sept. 27Ih, 1827. present the lion. William ' chley, Judge. The mournful intelligence of th ■ death of Maj. FREEMAN WALKER having reached this place immediately after the opening of the Court, and the same having been annduncha, it was on mo tion, rcsdlvcd, that as a suitable testimony of re spect for the memory of the deceased, that the Court should adjourn to the hour of 1! o’clock, A. M., and that John Schley, Wm. H. Torrance, and R per L. Gamble, Esquires.b- a Committee to prepare and re ort an expression of the feel ings of the Court and Bar upon this melancholy dispensation of Providence. At the houi of 11 o’clock, the Court having met pursuant to ad journment, the committee made the following re port:— The Committee a; poi ted hy the Co i t to pre pare and report an expression of their feeling, on the death of their distinguished and esteemed fellow-citizen and member of this Bar, know not la what manner suitably to approach the subject. Thev feel that their powers arc too feeble and language too impotent to convey their feeling of •otrcm arid respect for his memory when dead, ir his worth and many amiable and virtuous qualities when in l^fe. To thrtfe who ha the pleasure and happiness of his acquaintance, no thing can be said of him, which will render.his memory more d?ar and lasting; and to thase to whom he was Unknown, this committeeman snv nothing that would do adequate justice to his haractcr. They therefore refrain from the at tempt,-by hereby observing, that in his public 1 -haracter as a Senator of the Legislature, as Senator in the Congress of the United States, aj. .Mayor of the City of Augusta, and other offices which he has filled. Georgia has been proud to laim him as her eiiizen. These appointments have all been conferred without his solicitation; •and have been discharged with that ability and Integrity, which has done honor to the appoint ments and credit to himself. He was the pride anil ornament of the middle circuit, and could boast of that which fulls to the lot of but few jndi- tidiials. lie had numerous friends, and the committee believe none will accuse it of stating any thing but the truth, when it says he had not an enemy upon earth. It is, however, with his ami b!e and worthy family, the committee most d-eplv sympathize this afflictive dispensation of Providence, as it is there his loss will be the most seriously felt. A. MITCHELL. Sept. 17 38 3t RUNAWAY F ROM the subscriber, living in Jones coun ty, Georgia, a very bright mulatto Negro Woman, named ELIZAR, about 22 years old, wears her hair long with lide and tucking combs, dresses very well ; carried off with her, one white cambrie dress with ruffles round the tail, also, one calico dress, also ruffled round the tail, and one purple bombazine dress, trimmed round the tail, also one straw bonnet with a green veil on it. I am of opininn thajt many persons would take her for a white lady on first appearance— she has a scare on one ofber cheeks, (I thinh her right cheek,) occasioned as she says, from a burn. I purchased her of a Captain J. Shep herd of Edgefield, Soutb-Caroiina, in July, 1826, who informed me he purchased her in Maryland, where she may aim to go. I wish the Jailors of this State, and all others, to notice this advertise ment particularly, for if she is carried to Jail, she may say that she belongs to some other person residing in some other state, or to some person else in this State. I expect she will aim ti* go by Augusta. She may get some person to carry her off—the scar on her cheek will detect her any where. Any person who will apprehend her and lodge her in any Jail or delivei her to me, will- be liberally rewarded. JAMES LOCKETT. Oct. 1 .* -- 42 Itp LEWIS F. 7.
