Being ing a good financier, he foresaw the mise ry this would produce among the unhap py tax payers of his country, already ex hausted by a long series of troubles and sufferings. In 1818, however, his talents secured him a re-appointment to his former sta- j lion, but he held it only one year, for in consequence of his refusal to sanction a plan for altering the mode of electing de puties, which was in violation of the charter, he was displaced. We have not heard of his being much in public life since that period, other than holding a seat in the chamber, where he has resolutely opposed all tho unjust pro jects of the ministry. In ihe present cri sis ho seems tbe only man who could be well selected to fill the post he dow oc cupies. NO. IV. CASSIMER PERlEß —Minister of Interior and Public Works, Cassimcr Perier is a very distinguished man, and has long been before the French public as a financier as well as debater. He was born in Grenoble in ihe year 1777, and is of course 53 years of age.— i He is one of (ho Bankers of Baris, and I when wo last had ihe pleasure of being there, his office was at No. 27 Hue Nome I do Luxemburg. But it is as an orator 1 that Cassuner Perier has distinguished himself. The able and fearless represen tative of the department of ihe Seine, he } ha* neves hesitated to express his opinion ’ on all subjects connected with the public interest Perhaps in all tho chamber thcie has (i"i be.en a more fearless advocate. Some of his saving* arc worthy of remembrance. Daring a stormy debate on the 2l»i of March 1821, the conduct of the French ! ministry, in relation to some events lately transpired at Piedmont, came under con sideration. At that time the liberty id (lie press was a* much shackled as it ever could b»*, ami it was a common resource ot the liberty party to express their cen time tits fully in dehate, us thu report of that alone was free from the correcting revision of censorship. The ministry were observed on this occasion to qiuul before the friends of liberty. On winch Perier boldly exclaim 'd “ Why does the mere report of these events produce on the ministry the same effect as ihe trumpet* of Israel on the wails ol Jencliol” I iu-, tnen.se enufusmu followed (Ins singular re mark. In the mouth of February, of the seme j year, a Captain of Cavalry petitioned for j redress against an act of the ministry, which illegally deprived him of In* half j pay. Gen. L.ivaux got up and (old ihe minister piesmit that he was a disgrace io 1 In* country, and responsible not merely ! to (hr kiug, bin to the nation aad the ' army. Ot corns* ihe most violent outcries a ro*e from "the right,” rescruniiiations fol lowed, lineals were uttered bv the muds- j lerirtl party, and complete disorder was commencing when Cassuner Perier rush- \ ed fui ward o the Tribune and exclaim’d -—"l* ihe timu come then, in which we •nu io lose our heads] If, notwithstand ing the evidence ol t ins, the ministry te- 1 giird us as conspirators, I say thev do not do their duty. Ckvieifct Aagaet 2% 'JO ssM CERTIFICATE. Philadelphia, Feb. ‘2olh, 1627. Mr. Wm. VV Potter:— DEAR SIR:—Two years have now elapsed since my daughter Mary Ann hasbWn, by tlie use of yoyir invaluable Medicine, restored to a state of much better health than wc could rea sonably have expected ; and as a duty 1 oive to suffering humanity, and gratitude to yourself, I teuder this. Dusting it may prove useful to those similarly alHicted. About twelve years ago she complained of se vere pains in tier back and hip, w >ich gresg worse and worse, until she was almost unable to move, or turn herself in bed. During this pe riod, her buck and hip swelled very much, aud the pain extended down the leg, which lost its natural power: a wasting of fltsh—loss of appe tite, and emaciation ensued, and her couuti u incu despicted misery. She continued without much, if any, alteration for the better, (Keeping her strictly under the advice of an eminent medical gentleman, ) for a considerable time, when the swelling on the hip began to increase ; hei phy sician's prescriptions hei ame useless; they re commended the steel jacket —one was procured, tried, but in vain, and tlie disease seemed tq hid defiance to all the well-know remedies in that complaint, that were here employed. She was then cousidctcd as incurable. Her sister having died of the same complaint, after an illness •(' four years, we were of opinion that Mary Anu must share the same fate. Having heard of the remarkable success of your Cath.dicon in scro fulous 1 on)piaints, I was ie*o ved to make a trial of it. She began to use it, aud in a few tlaya the swelling on tbe hip broke, and discharged grestly: she could then use her crutches—in tt few weeks longer her pains disiyipeared—the discharge ceased—the ulcer heided—her appe tite returned—and her whole system resumed its wonted vigor. I believe, had your invaluable medicice been used when she first complained, it would have prevented her frpm being a cripple for (lie rest of her life. With many thanks for the benefits which my ' daughter has derived from the use of your inval uable Cutkolrcon. I remain * Yours, Respectfnliv, JOHN M’CURDY. Jui,.
