To preserve the Water Works which convey
Water from Turknett’s “Spring, and for other
purposes— „• ‘
WHEREAS, the City Council, by their
agreement made and entered into with
Thomas McGran and his associates, on the 19ll>
day of March 1828. to convey water into the
city, did covenant “ to.pass anti enact front time
to time, such Ordinances as nitry he proper and
necessary to preserve such waterworks from
abuse and injury, and also to prevent the un
necessary use of Hydrant water.
Sec Ist. Be htherefore ordained, hy the citv t
j council of Augusta, that any person who shall'
wilfully injure any of the water pipes or hydrants
within the corporate limits of the city shall on
conviction e fined iuasuru not exceeding one
hundred dollars.
Sic. 2d. And be it further ordained, Thatany
; person or persons, who shall draw water from
> (lie Hydrants in the streets, except with the per-
I mission of the owner-of the works, or tortile
purpose of extinguishing fire or for The nse of
some of the fire companies, may be fined in a
s im not exceeding fifty dollars
Sec. 3d. And be it lurther orda'ncd, that any
person or persons, who may have contracted for
the use of the water ofTurknefts spring on his,
her or fileir lot or lots, who shall in violation of
his, her, or their contract, draw or permit to be
drawn more of said water than Is necessary, for
the use of his, her, or their family, may be fined in
aguiniigt exceeding fifty dollars forevery offence.

Volume ol the Rural Repository, the publisher
would renew his pledge to his patrons, and the
public in-general, that bis unremitting encieavors
will be exerted to meet their expectations. The
Repository will continue to be conducted on the
same plan and afforded at the same convenient
rate, which he has reason to believe has hitherto
given it so wide a circulation and such a durable
and flottering popularity, as has rendered it a
favorite and amusing visitor during the eight
years of its publication. As its correspondents
are daily increasing and several highly talented'
individuals with the benefit of whose literary la
bors he lias not heretofore been favored, and
whose writings would reflect honor upon any
periodical, have engnged to contribute to its col
umns. he flatters himselt that their communica
tions and the original matter already on hand,
together with the be*t periodicals of the day,
with wtffcii he Is regularly supplied, will furnish
him with ample materials for enliveuing its
pages with that variety expected in works o(jjiis
nature.
CONDITIO ?IS.

other Saturday, and will contain twenty-six

a title page and an index to the volume, making,
in the whole. 212 pages Octavo. It shall l,e
printed in handsome style, on Super Royal pa
per of a superior quality, with an entire new
bourgeois type, containing at least one quarter
more matter than heretofore; making, at the
end of the year, a neat and tasteful volume, the
contents of which will be both amusing and in

The Ninth Volume (fifth volume. New Series)
commenced on the 2d at the low rate of
One Dollar per annum, payable in all cases in
chance. Any person, who will remit u.s Five
Dollars, free of postage, shall receive six copies,

free of postage, shall receive twelve copies and
one copy of the Eighth Volume.

to me, in Columbia county, or if lodged in any
Jail so that 1 get him again. It is believed he is
lurking about Augusta and Savannah—and it is
likely that when caught he would not tell his
owner’s name, as he refused to d<> so on a

joining any class of College, at any time of the

vidual, however, who does not wish to pursue a

'AN ORDINANCE
To amend An Ordinance passed the 14th May,
1831,.entitled an Ordinance to levy a tax on
DOGS, kept within the city of Augusta.
Skc. Ist. Be it ordained, by the City Council
of Augusta, that the return required by the Or
dinance passed the L4th May 1831, be and the
same is hereby suspended, until the annual tax
return foi the year 1633; when it shall be the
duty of all persons resident within the corporate
limits of the city, to make his, her or their re
turn, and annually thereafter on oath, of all
Dogs, kept on which a tax is levied by the pro
visions of said Ordinance.
Sec. 2d. And be it Jurther Ordained, That the
7th section of the said Ordinance be and the
same is hereby repealed.
