In future, the following rules and regulations
are to be observed :
Isi The duties of the Assistant Postmasters
.General, Chief Clerk anti. Subordinates, are dis
tributed into three divisions.
The first, the Southern Division, under tjte
superintendence of C. K. Gardner, the Scniot
Assistant, w'll comptise the States of
Virginia,(with the Di t. of
Columbia,) Louisiana,
North Carolina, Arkansas Territory,
South Carolina, 'Tennessee,
.Georgia, * * Kentucky,
Florida Territory, Indiana,
Alabama, Illinois,
Mississippi, Missouri.
The second, the Northern Division, under the
superintendence of S. R * Hobbie, Assistant, will
comprise rhe States of
Maine, New York,
New Hampshire, New Jersey,
Vermont, Delaware,
Massachusetts, Maryland,
Rhode Island, Pennsylvania,
Connecticut, Ohio,
and Michigan Territory.
2<l. Each of these Divisions shall embMce an
•, office of Appointments and Instructions, and an
office of Mail Contracts; the office of Mail Dep
redations to remain as at present organized, aux
iliary to both.
3d. To each of these Divisions shall be as
signed four Corresponding Clerks, two the
office of Mail Contracts, and two for the Office
of Appointments anti instructions, a Contract
Clerk, an Appointment Clerk, a. Route Book
Clerk, a Recording Clerk, and Clerks for regis
tering orders, fines and other miscellaneous
duties.
4th. One of the Corresponding Clerks in each
Division, shall be designated as the principal
Clerk of the Division.
sth. The Senior assistant will be charged with
the business of procuring Mail Portmanteaus,
Canvass Bags, Locks and Keys, and with all
the incidental duties, A clerk shall be assigned
to aid him in their performance, who, under the
direction of the Assistants, respectively, s .all
* keep the registry of the checks countersigned
bv them.
'6th. The business of forwarding Blanks for
Accounts, Locks, Keys, Post Office Lists, Laws,
&c. shall be performed under the direction of
the Assistants, within their respective Divisions.
7th. The principal Clerk of the Division only,
shall sign official correspondence, and that, in
case of the absence of the Assistant.
6th. The third division, will be that of finance,
under the superintendence of the Chief Clerk,
O. B. Brow*, who shall be the Treasurer of the
Department. There shall be under his control
the “Book Keepers,” the “Solicitor’s Office,”
the “Pay the ‘•Examiner’s Office,” the
“Register’s Office,” and the “Dead Letter Of
fice, to the last of which shall be attached the
business of the general letter file.
9th. No money shMI be paid into the Depart
ment. directly to the Treasurer. nor paid out of
it, directly by him.

IN Jacksonboio’, Scriven County, on the 6th
February last, a Negro Woman, SARAH,
about 30 or 35 years old, daik complexion and
has lost her for? teeth, says she belongs to one
William White, a Negro speculator, that she
runaway about first Feb. from her master in
Hamburg, South-Carolina, and that her master
had recently brought her froiii Maiyiand.
The owner is requested to come forward, pay

LOST.
ON or about the 3lst of November last, the
subscriber lost, his POCKET BOOK,
somewhere between Warrenton and Sparta,
containing among other things, one hundred and
seventy dollars, in South-Carolina Bank Bills ;
four five dollar bills—one, twenty dollar bill,
'and tbiiteetf ten dollar bills. The finder will be
liberally rewarded, upon delivering the same
