and Oats in bundles brought to the city oi

Sec. Ist. Be it ordained by the Citv Council
of Augusta, That all Fodder, Hay and Oats
brought to this city in wagons or carts for sale,
shall be weighed at the scales prepared'for that
purpose near the lower market.
Sec. 2d. Be it further ordained, l hatit.sball
be the duty of the clerk of the lower market to
superintend the weighing efall Fodder, Hay anc
Oats, at all hours of Ihe day, from sun rise till
sun set. And thj party selling such Fodder.
Hay or Oats, shall pay to the said cleik fifty cis
ot each wagon, <uiJ twenty-five cents lor each
cart or dray.
Sec. 3d Be it further ordained, That every
person who shall violate the provisions of this
Ordinance, may be fined iu a sum not exceeding
Twenty Dollars.

chine, I erected a temporary saw mill, with one
saw, to which I put 2 horses, (the horses were not
accustomed to work in a circle,) and sawed thro’
a fourteen inch log with mote ease than two
Ikorses can Gin in the common mode of applica
tion; t lie horses being removed, eight men"worked
the machine, and cut at the rate of thirteen hun
dred e hty feet per day.—Say that one third
of the time is lost in returning the log and put
ting on fresh logs, the machine is then adequate
to saw eight or nine hundred feet per daj with
two horses.
