ge, actuated by no selfish motives, but
prompted by that natural and inherent de
•ire, so common to all, to preserve and
maintain among the nations, of the earth
a national existence, and to avert the slow
but certain extinction of his people, has
long been the warm and zealous advocate
ofa treaty, and removal west of the Mis
sissippi.—Here we may readily trace to
its true origin, Ross’s perverseness and
opposition to the treaty. It is, we believe
generally admitted, that Indian Chiefs are
more tenacious of their populaaity than
any people living. Ross has observed
with that jealous eye, peculiar to the In
dian character, the movements and in
creasing popularity of Ridge. And now
rather than view in him a successful ri
val, Ross would, we hesitate not to say,
glory in an entire destruction and annihi
lation of the national existence of his peo
ple.’"—-Miners R :corder.
Union Gold Mining Company of Vir
ginia.— A party of Cornish Miners ar
rived at New York, a few days since, in
the ship Boston, of London, and passed .
through Philadelphia on their way to the J
Company’s Mines. We are informed
also, that a large amount of machinery, J
of the most approved construction, is ex- 1
pected daily. It is gratifyingto perceive
that the attention of Brit sh capitalists has
been at length awakened to the great
mineral resources of the Southern States.
It is natural to suppose that native Amer
ican enterprise will derive much advan
tage and information from the well-direc
ted operations of the London company,
whom it may be presumed have been very
choice in their selection of men and ma
chinery, and from the known success of
the Brazilian Mining Company, whose
profits amounted to $250,000 per annum.
These ioreign capitalists may reasonably
calculate on a largely profitable return.
We now confidently anticipate some fixed
results, which will more completely de
velo'pe and satisfactorily determine the
character of the gold region of the South
ern States. The future conduct of simi
lar op erations must be much modified j
•nd directed by the successful results of
the present undertaking. The skill and
science which will be here evinced, can
not fail to save many engaged in similar
enterprises from much useless expense
•nd disappointment.— Nat. Int.

BOARDING HOUSE?
THE Subscriber begs leave to inform the
