Marine and Fire Insurance Bank of the Stale of
Georgia
April Blh, 1835.
“Extract” from the Minutes of the Board at
an extra meeting held this day; “th« exhibit of
the condition of the Bank, as prepared for
the half yearly-return to the Governor, and the
President’s letter, accompanying thesame, with
Estimate ofpobable loss from bad and doubtful
debts, being submitted, the same was approved
pnd ordered that they be forwarded to His
Excellency. JAMES SMITH Cashier.
To the Stockholders of the Marine and fire Insu
rance Bink.
This institution was first chartered as an In
surance Company, and twenty-five dollars on
each share paid. The operations of the Insu
rance Company w-ere not successful, and so
much of the capital was lost, that when the bank
charter was obtained, the assets amounted to
only eight dollars and nineteen cents.
After the bank charter was obtained, an in
stalment ot ten dollars on each share was called
in, making the assets amount to eighteen dol
lars and nineteen cents per share; but this in
stalment of ten dollars was added to thelnsurance
Company scrip of twenty-five dollars, when the
assets, in fact, only amounted to eighteed dol
lars and nineteen cents.
By the operations of the Bank, in addition to
thediuidends which have been made, the actu
al assets of the Bank have been increased from
eighteen dollars and nineteen cents, to twenty
five dollars per share, which is the present true
par value of the stock.
By order of the Board of Directors, I submit
to the consideration of the stockholders, the
propriety of surrendering the present scrip, and
receiving new- scrip for twenty-five dollars, in
order that the scrip may represent the correct
capital of the Bank.
The fact, that the scrip does not at this time
represent the correct capital of the Bank, is con
sidered a sufficient reason for the adoption of
this proposition.
A written answer is requested from each
stockholder, stating his or her assent or dissent
to this proposition.
Respectfully submitted by
S. B. PARKMAN,
Presidetit Marine and Fire Insurance Bank.
