nmtnent in that country, which, however, were
not believed. Arrivals, *20,000 bales per week.”
NEW YORK, Nov. 25 Cotton.— The mar
ket remains without any further change, but the
transactions are almost exclusively for h me
Use. The sales from 21st to 24th inst. amount
to about 700 bales; of which 500 were Upland
at 16 a 16} its for new; 150 Florida, 15 a 17;
and 100 New Orleans, 15 a 18. Tl.e stock on
Sale is quite limited, too small Indeed to admit
of operations of much extent.
NEW YORK, Nov. 28.
/Yattr.—The sudden change of weather, and
the almost alarming news of the closing of the
Canal sortie weeks earlier than last year, togeth
er with French news, has affect.ed the Market as
tonishingly. High as the article was last week,
it has gone up nearly a dollor a barrel. There is
no doubt a considerable quantity of flour will
bestopped on the way; this, with the knowledge
that the Southern crop is short, keeps our stock
low*, and the supplies being cut off from the West,
holders are firm and look forward for prices be
ing firm. The citj* has been ransacked to buy
up all the small and scattering lots that could
be got hold of at $7 25. Large lots of common
brands have changed hands at 7 25 and 7 50 for
fancy—all other brands have gone up in a like
ratio.
CHARLESTON, Dec. 2 Cotton.— The
Sales of Uplands since our last Weekly Report,
have amounted to upwards of 2000 bales, at a
reduction of fully half a cent on all qualities.'—
Prices ranging from 15 to 16 cents.
From the Commercial Report and Mobile Price
Current, Nov. 26.
Remarks.— We have had a week of consider
able activity, and we believe our market may
be said now to have fairly opened for the sea
son. In Groceries and Provisions, transactions
have been on a liberal scale. The Alabama
river is now in fine boating order, and the Tom
bigbee is on the rise. Hereafter we anticipate
a constant and free trade with the interior, which
will greatly conduce to the life and animation
of business in this place.
Cotton. —Our cotton market remains in near
ly the same state as described in our last. The
stock continues light and the demand steady,
though not pressing. There have been some
heavy sales, for the season, within the last three
days. Prices have ranged from 15} to 16} cts
‘—the principal transactions have taken place at
16 cts. Strictly fine cottons, we learn, are heid
now at 16} cts.’though there is but little in mar
ket. As yet there has been no cotton offered
below fair. Os course we are still unable to fill
put our tables of classifications. The article is
just at this time beginning to arrive freely, and
we know of no cause that will prevent a brisk
market, even at the present ruling prices, for
weeks to come.
The receipts of Cotton this week have been
5922 bales—the exports 2077, leaving in all a
stock on hand of 10,197 bales.
