NOTE- Thu Editor, by the origin-d terms of
•ubscription, proposed to confine hig -annual Vok
ume t« 500 pages at the price of $5, or one ceot
a page. But in order to comprise the whole of
this important subject of “State Law and Regula*
lions' 9 (which it was one part of hit detign to ob
tain from gentlemen who would undertake the
labour of it, and which they have performed) un
der one view, it became necessary to occupy two
Volumes, and to exceed, by nearly 500 pa get,
the quantity of matter which, regtilaHy, by the
term* nf subscription, they were to contain. TbI*
unexpected addition, of almost one third, with the
extram.linary expense and diffic:t!iies which at*
tended the publication of tl is branch of his work,
■eeraed to the Editor, at firit, to justify a claim
upon his subscribers and the public, to be ir. some
measure compensated, at least to the extent of '
actual expenditure. Under this view, he stated
that t*o du'IssES would be expected fifom his a£-
scriber* for the additional 5u0 p tgea, and that the
Book Store price would be $14, rather lest than
one cent a page, the ordinary rate for American
Lw wnrkt in lloyal 8vo size. Ncverthelesa, on
rtfiection, and although gentlemen have, without
any exception, cheerfully submitted to this, the
Editor holda himself bound to the letter of his co-
gag. mont, and hi* agents are directed to defive*
these volumes at g 10, the subscription price, |o
Kucli of liia subscribers as may choose to have
tnem at nil, and Booksellers to dispose of them at
the same. Aa the work it but just completed!*
a:.*l only a few copies sent out, the different
which has been paid, by those to whom tbey hard
been delivered, will be returned as soon aa their
names are ascertained
The result of this is, that the Digest for cull
State, will ce»t the purchaser shout 40 cents, •
sum nut amounting on the average, to , tenth part
of the pas luge paid on letters wnttrn, snd for the
pucle^t* of manu-cript transmitted to the Editor*
to relation to evety such tut*.
