•A Merchant of this place, who tndei to Sa
vannah, informs me, that the practice of letting
Cotton remain out in the streets and wharves in
Savannah, exposed to.the weather, to injurious to
the character of the cotton from thence—this
practice does not exist in Charleston and the cot
ton from that port comes here in neater order,
than from Savannah. Thus exposing much of
your Cotton, tinder the roof of Heaven and the
inclemency of the weather, is as lam inforrod, a
gain* the ordinances of your City. It is a gross
an 1 unpardonable injury to the Planter, whilst
storage to charged for the same, and your ware
houses empty. The energy ef your police ought
to stop this nuschtef, perhaps|inconoderstely el
lowed, sanctioned by time, bat destructive to the
Bagging and Staple, and highly reprehensible.”
