Mebmed was at the same time to attack

nd to match into tho Pelopouncssus after
a racing Livadia.
The Greeks were aware or this plan, and
determined to fight tbe Pachas in detail.
Mchuinir was attacked at St'-Luca hy O

This produced a revrlt among the merce

the arrival of *000 Turks, which increased
us enemies to the number of 13.000, and
tabled them to proceed to Mini, when
hey joined the Pacha of Sarissa with the
wreck of Mehtned's army. The two Pa
chas, ivitliT8000 men, set out for Livadij
m the 25.lt ol August, intending to co op
crate with Jussuf, of whore deicat they were
yet ignorant. ' Their advanced guard ol
12,000, under Djcladik my, halted at Las
pi on the 27th, where lie found 3500 IlcUc
nians on their march against him, and now
occupying an entrenched camp. Jn order
to astertain the force of his enemies, the
Pacha rcmaincdinactivc all that day, intend
ing on the next to make an attack. On
their side Hellenians were doubtful what lu
Jo as their numbers were very small and
rheir Gen. Carair Caehi, was sick; but in
this juncture the brave Boxzaris arrived anti
at once restored their courage. As then
was nothing to require his presence ai
Macrinoros, and he hhd U-arnt the course
taken by tbe Pacha of Scutari, lie set nut
with 3*0 Suiiotea, passed rapidly through
Etolis and Locrit into Thessaly, where he
heard that the chiefs were determined to
join the Greeks. When he arrived at the
Camp of Carari Caehi, he found that the
Greekxwdre resolved at all events not to
suffer the Turks to enter Livadia, and seem
ed resolved to risk a battle. Ilozzaris re
presented this as a desperate measure, and
proposed that they should fall upon them
suddenly in the darkness of the night.
“Wo can surprise them” said lie, “ for
they do not expect to be attacked; and you
know that these barbarians never take any
precautions against surprise. 1 have with
me ff 10 Suliolet, and 1 will, at their head
enter the Turkish camp with no other arms
but our pistols and sabres. Do you,” said
he to the Hellenians, "present yousclvcs in
in Tour different points, and commence
vour fire when you are recognised, so as to
distraetthe Turks, and if you second me,
urc will seize the Pacha alive or dead.”
The proposal met universal approbation,
and Bozzaris was dcsir d to lead the en
terpnze. At midnight he desired an addi
tion oi 100 chosen men to his little band of
Suliotet t then separating into four dit iiions,
prepared for the hazardous enterprise—
When he left ihecamp, he said to bit chiefs
“My friends, if we scstter, you will bq sure
to find me round the tent of the Pacha.”—
Having said this tbe signal was given, & the
heroes marched on in silence. The Turks
were taken entirely hy surprise snd the tent
of the Pscha surrounded.
Bozzaris taunted the infidels for their care
lessness and their defeat; and then stepping
forward seized the Pacha with own his hsnds.
He however received a mortal wound front a
Moor, and teas borne off by his soldiers,
while the Pacha was kilted on the spot.
The Isst words ol Bozzsris was these:
“My friends, to die for liberty is a pleasure
and not a pain. Freedom is not acquired
but at great sacrifices. I die content, be*
cause I have contributed to the independ
ence of my country.' Continue your ctrvl
cas to her, and do not quit your arms but
amid the destruction of your ehemies.”
This it t deed worthy of ancient Greece
in her most heroic ages. The character as

BUENOS AYRES.—The Edimra of
the Philadelphia Gazette have received e
Buenos Ayres paper containing an accouin
of the differences which have arisen between
Capt. Willis of the British sloop , of war
Brazen, and the Government of Bucnus
Ayres.
1 he first offence capt. Willis gave, was
in presenting himself at the government
house, to have a verbal communicatior
wilh the authorities, without having first
requested an audience. Before tho gov.
eminent was fully established, such thing.,
used to be permitted, but latterly, the pub
lie authorities of Buenos Ayres are nut ctis
posed to giant to every captain who
commands a vessel of twenty guns, those
rights and privileges which can be claimed
only by the diplomatists ol nations.
The second offence lie gave, consisted in
his boarding several English vessels, which
had arrived in (he roads, previously to their
being visi ed by. the health officers. This
was an infraction of the laws of the land,
and icsintcd as such.
Subsequently, capt. Willis issued a tie
duration of war, and followed up this de
claration by interfering in the proceedings
of the officers of the port of Buonos Ayres,
and by boarding one of the government ves
sols, to search us he said, lur English pri
soners.
