A Convention of Delegates from twenty,

ssembled at the Capitol, at Raleigh, on

lie measures necessary to procure certain
imendmen-.s in the Constitution of the
State. The Convention seems to be high
y respectable: among the names of thi
Octobers ate many well known to us, and
several who are,or have lately been, Mem.
hers of the Congress of the United States,
viz General Stokes, General Saunders,
Mr. Yancey, Mr. J. S Smith, Mr. Fisher,
ind Mr. Settle. Gen. Stokes was chosen
President of the Contention. The main
object of the amendments desired to the
Constitution is the equalization of the re
presentation in the Legislature of the

checks formed in the name of Mr. Jacobs,

last of these checks waa presented for pay
ment about a month ago, but it was not till
this week that the fraud waa discovered.
