Sea. 4. And be it further ordained, that
the said Port Wardens, or any twoof them,
or more, if required by the person apply
ing fur the survey as aforesaid, shall have
power, and they are hereby authorised, to
aeV upon any survey and to perform all the
duties required of them 1 y this ordinance.
>Sec.,5. And be it further ordained, that
0t the. request of any owner of a vessel,
master, merchant or consignee, it shall be
the duty of the said Port Wardens, or any
two or more of them, as aforesaid, upon the
arrival of any ship or vessel witnin the port
and district of Savannah, in distress,or which
nfay receive damage therein, or be in a
leaky situation or condition, or on b-.ard of
which there ..ay be g -ods, wares or mer
chandize, damaged or supposed to be dam
aged; to examine and survey the said ship
or vessel, in her hull, masts, spar, sails,
figging and other appurtenances, and to
report and certify the state thereof, and the
repairs necessary to fit her for sea, so that
she may be fully sea worthy, noting partic
uhrly the damages which appear to have
been sustained hy the perils of the sea, and
tbo probable expence of repair as distinct
fro.n such as may become necessary from
iVgligence or ordinary decay, and to assist
the said Port Wardens in such examination,
they shall have access to the Log Book of
' such -ship or vessel. Also, to examine and
.^survey the stowage ol the cargo of any ship
<pr vessel, and to report and certify if the
V tiaVitc- be properly stowed and secured; and
la examine and survey any such goods,
wares and merchandize damaged, or sup
posed to be damaged, and to report and
certify if the same be damaged or not, and
in case of damage, the rate and degree of
damage; and in surveys of packages of mer
chandize, they shall designate particularly
the portion injured, and in no event recom
mend a sale ol the parts not damaged, and
generally to do and perform all the tilings
which, by the custom ol merchants in the
port of Savannah, have been usually per
formed on surveys; and, particularly, to ad’
vise and recommend such measures, in < e
lation either to said ship or vessel and car
go, as may be deemed best suited to p.o
mote tits interest and benefit of all cor
cerned.
Sec. 6. And be it further ordained, that
the said Port Wardens, or any two or more
of them, as aforesaid, when called upon the
Burvey nf any vesstl, 3hall have power to
employ a carpenter, <»r carpenters, to open
the ceilipg, strip the sheathing, bore the
.timber, and perform such other work as
shill be necessary to enable them to make
a correct survey, and to employ laborers
and other persons necessary to move, open,
an-- cooper, or otherwise arrange any goods,
wares or merchandise they may survey,
the expence of all which shall be paid by
th - owner, master or consignee of said ves
sel Or goods.
Sec. 7. And be it further Ordained, -that
If any -erson or persons other than those
authorised by this ordinance, except per
sona appointed by order of court, shall act
.or officiate upon any survey, or .perform
any of the duties herein required of the said
' Port Wardens, be or they shall severally
forfeit a sum not exceeding thirty dollars,
to be recovered, upon conviction, before the
City Council, to .the use of the said War-
-dens.
Sec 5. And belt further ordained, that
for the services to''be performed, hy .virtue
of this ordinance, there shall be paid to each
of the said Port Warden* officqiting„by the
owner,-master or consignee of any vessel or
cargo, the following spins, to wit;
For each survey on the hatches
' of a vessel, 38100

For a boat and hands, it the Bsid Port War
dens should be required to furnish such,
ten dollars per day. In all cases where the
Port Wardens shall be employed more than
one day in the performance of any duty re
quired by this ordinance, the acting Port
Wardens shall be entitled to similar fees
for every day so employed.
Sec. 9, And bo it further ordained, that
the clerk of the said board of Port Wardens
shall collect all sums due to said board, or
either of the Port Wordens for services
rendered, pursuant to this ordinance, and
for which he shall be entitled to such com
pensation as the Port Wardens shall fix.

same so received, and pay over tp each Port

to be equally divided among them; and shall
also make a quarterly return of the sums
received to the City Treasurer, to be by him

Sec. 11. And bo it further ojflained, that
if the said Port Wardens, of them,
shall neglect or refuse to perform the duties
enjoined by this, or any other ordinance,
he,or they, unless sufficient cause be shew,
to the contrary, shall severally forfeit and
pay a sum not exceeding ‘thirty dollars, to
be recovered, on conviction before ti(n(pity
Council, to the use of the informer, orVhali
be removed from office, at the discretion of
Council.
Sec. 13. And be it further ordained, that
all ordinances, or parts of ordinances, mili
tating with this ordinance be, and the same
are hpreby repealed.

AN ACT
r n revive, amend and continue in force an
act entitled an act, to extend the time of ta
king out grants on surveys made on head rights
and bounty warrants.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Re
presentatives of the Btite of Georgia, in General
\esembly met, and it it hereby enacted by the
authority of the aame, That where any person or
persons have heretofore had surveys made on
lead rights, bounty warrants and grants thereon
have not been obtained, it shall and may be law
ful for such person or persons to apply for and
obtain such grant or grant-, at any time previous
to the 25th of October, eighteen hundred and
twenty four, on payment of he usual fees.
Sec. 2 And be it further unacted by the author
ity aforesaid, Tnat where any surveys h ive here
tofore been made on head rights or bounty war
rants, and grants thereon have not been obtained,
such land shall not be subject to a re survey until
three monlha from and alter the person or per
sons claiming under the original survey shall have
been notified that such re survey is intended to
be made, and that in aii cases, the person or per
sons claiming under the original survey, shall be
entitled l-> the preference of making such re-sur.
vey, until the expiration of three months from the
time ot such notification; and in the event of there
being no claimant residing on nr near the land to
be thus re surveyed, such notice shall be perfect,
ed by giving three months notice by public ad
vertisement, at the Court House of the ccunty
where such land tnay lie, and in one of the public
Gazettes of this State,
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That it shall
be the duty of all surveyors who shall make any
such re surrey, to certify on his return to the sur
veyor General, that due notice according to the
provisions of this act had been given, and no grant
obtained on such re survey shall be v did, unless
accompanied with such certificate: Provided,
nothing in this act shall aifect the rights of orphans
or persona under the age of 21 years, and that all
such persons .shall be allowed one year after they
arrive at the age of 31 years to take out thei;
grants.
Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That it shall
be the duty of the Governor to cause this act to
l>e published in one of the newspapers in Mill-
edge*ille, Augusta and Savannah, once in each
month, until the expiration of the time appointed
by the same for taking out grants,.
Sec. 5. And be it further enabled, That all laws
and parts of laws militating against this act be
and the same are hereby repealed.

ORDERS.
|THE Generals of Divisions and of Brigade* are
L requested to attend a Review and Inspection
by Regiments and Battalions of their several com
Hands. It is expected by the Commander in
Chief, that they will report to him the general
state of the tfoops-rthe defects which they have
discovered in the militia system-rand the reme
dies which they would suggest for their cor
rection.
Ordered, That the Aids-de-Camp of the Com
mander in Chief attend the Review, and assist a*
the Inspection of Regiments and BaUallions of the
Division within which they reside. They will
ske care that the returns ar^correctly made, ao
-ording to the primed form transmitted them,one
if which will be forwarded by the Brigade Inspec-
tor to the office of the Adjutant General, (he oth
er by the Aids-de Camp, directed to Head Quar
ters.
The absence necessary or accidental of Brtg ide
Inspectors must be supplied always, and Compa
nies not upon parade mast be specially noted—
the absence of their officers accounted for, and
the compliment of men belonging to them ascer
tained by the best means which can be devUed.
In addition to these orders, which must be car
ried strictly into effect, the Aids-de-Camp will
have special ones. They will see the necessity ol
diligence and attention in the disclosure by the
Adjutant General, that no returns have been re
ceived from the Brigade Inspectors with the ex*
ception of Majors Foard of^st Brigade 5th Divis
ion, Schley of 2d of 2d Division, Long of 1st of 4th
Baker of 2d of 5tb, and Beall of 2d of 4th, who ap
pear to have done their duty.
