Prince Edward's Island, S f t'n.ler I.
About a week since was stranded on the bar of
New-Lon-Jon harbor, in this island, the brig Har
riet, Hannah, master, from Dublin, with passengers,
and, as it is said, bound to Quebec, anil front
■thence to this island) to load with timber, out
eleven weeks They were 7 weeks in the gulph,
« tempting to get to Qnfbec, and got as far as
aspe; previous to that several had died with sick
ness and famine, from ko long a passage. All the
provisions which the passengers laid in had been
exhausted some weeks previous to their arrival at
Gaspe. when the master then commenced to male
his fortune upon their miseries, by charging then,
at the most extravagant rate for every pound < t
bread, and the tresh fish that would be occasional
ly caught in like manner, not permitting them to
catch any themselves. It deserves to be mention
ed that Mr. O’Hara, at Gaspe, wav a true and gen
erous friend to these-poor creatures, by compell
ing th master to procure a vessel to take fort)
of them to Quebec—twenty of them, which, from
their reduced state, were landed and left in the
Woods, at Gaspe, and remaining passengers on
board, between fifty and sixty, Mr. O’Hara furnish
ed with three days provision, allowing them for-
ky-cight hours to* get to this'island; arid in a mea
sure to increase their sufferings they were driven
ashore at N. London aforesaid, where the inhabi
tants fulfilled the precepts of the gospel,by feeding
wid lodging, and giving them every comfort withm
their power. It is certainly not in the power of any
on to describe their suffering, one instance ought
i be .mentioned, vis one oftlie families on board
. insisting of a husband and wife and ten children;
the father was unable to pay for two of his chil
dren, (boys) but upon consideration of the father
having paid for all the rest, the master agreed to
take the whole family, (the boy» in question)—
after sailing from Dublin, and one hundred mites
from it, they liad occasion to call at a distant port,
where the master met w ith two persons who wish
ed to take passage at SI each; to accommodate
tlie-c men. the captain landed the boys, contrary
to 'he most solemn entreaties of their parents, and
•ailed, leaving the boys oh the wide world. Tlit
mother died shortly afterwards on the passage,
With grief anil distrtetinn, and one of the cuildryn.
Several affidavits have been made respecting
the captain’s conduct, and sent to his excellenci
the lieutenant-governor, and we have no doubt
but die captain w ill be taken care of

COLUMBIAN OIL,
For sale by appointment at
JOHN F. ROUYAT’S,
* OPPOSITE THE EXCHANGE,
f Where certificates of Usdonderful cures may he
seett-J
Tbe great sales of the Columbian Oil, since
his been brought before tbe public, prove its in
trinsic value, and is a pleasing foreboding of what
we have to expect from its more extensive circu
lation. _
Many interesting certificates might be furnished
testifying to the great value of the Columbian Oil,
but we have preferred giving buqittr, waiting to
rest more on the merits of the medicine, tlian on
die effects produced by certificates from a source
however respectable.
The following are among the complaints
which the Columbian Oil lias been found very ef
ficacious, viz: rheumatism, consumption, gout,
pains in any part of tlie body, but more particular
ly oftlie back and breast; asthma, phthisic, infill
enza, cold, coughs, whooping-cougii, diseases of
the eye and eye hi!*, tooth-ache, ear-acht,,ahd
deafness, cholic, cramps, external aqd internal
bruises, sprains, and flesh wounds, old sores, ulcers,
felons, scalds, burns, mumps, croup, quinzyv dys
entery or flux, diarri;®, or lax, summer complaint
oF children, indigestion, lost ofappetite, net
debility, piles, mercurial diseases, lespeciall
those cases where the system has been charged wit'
mercury for soke considerable time, and, in there:
excrusciating pains subsequent to its too great
use and exposure; Herpys, or diseases of tlie skin'
such as ring-worms, tetters, scald head,. &c.. stiff
ness of joints and limbs, palsy, ague and fever,
cholera morbus, gravel, gleets, obstructed urine,
scurvy, andin almost all casesoLa general or focal
weakness.
We are aware that in recommending a medicin
in so many diseases, the public especially those
who hare not used the Oil, may be induced tc
question its virtues; but a disposition’of tbis nature
•'•ill soon be dissipated, when they are informed
that a great proportion of the diseases are owing
10 the same general cause. And in those case
where the diseases differ materially in their 11a
r u rc, the effects produced are nearly the same
though not on the same principle.

SEA DAMAGE ON GOODS.
Several applications having been made <• . s
lately as to the mode of surveying and selling
damaged Goods, for general information we ’refer
to the following instructions lately received from
Lloyd’s.
■„ Carnochari & Mitchel. agents.
When called upon by consignees to ascertain
the damage, the agents are to act as a survey 01
only 1 ; andin this capacity to see that the same
part of every package is separated from the da
maged and particularise the quantity of each in
his certificate, taking care in the first instance to
satisfy themselves that the Goods were proper!;
-Mowed, and that the damage was occasioned by
sea water whilst on board. If the agents he further
called upon, by tlie consignees to superintend
and certify sales, thjw will refer to their original
survey, which specifies the quantity damaged in
each package, and take carehatohly the damaged
■art or pieces be sold on accotTrit of the average,
be sale must take place within a reasonable lime
rom the period of landing; otherwise the under-
riters.wUlbe exonerated; and in such case thi
igents are not to act.—A certificate should atway
be furnished to shew what the market price or va
lue ot the Goods damaged, would have been at
the time of sale for ready money, had they arrived-
ivitiiout damage, taking the utmost care to guard
against exaggerated a .il fraudulent valuations, and
if part of the Goods arrive in a sou nd state, and are
id a certified copy of the sale hftliat part rugtn
always to be furnished. When damaged Goods
are to be sold, they sTiould be letted in such
quantities, as are best calculated to suit purchaser.-
in general. that the sales maybe made as produc
tive as possible.
Should the separation of the sound Goods frorr
he damaged, not be assented to by consignee:.
be agents are to notify their objection to tin
proceedings, and enterelere no further in he sales
or in certifying the fac's. A discretionary power,
is given to the agents, of agreeing to a coinpri
misefor damage, in cases where tlie claim is so
mall that it would be much increased, by the ex-
iense of notarial documents, advertisements, and
tiier charges of public sale. When such cOmpro
mise is made, tbe certificate of sound value of thi
