an incredible of hears have left the woods,

and devoured the inhabitants, nay, traces
have been found of their having killed ami
devoured each other. At the end of the
winter many bears were found which had
perished of hunger. In several settlements
' they have killed from two to three hundred
bears. The oldest K.amtschadalcs do not
remember ever to have seen the bears so
savage and bloodthirsty. The cause id
this savdgeness and uf their hunger is, that
for these two years past there has been an

when she thumped over the bar, and lays now'

ribs on his passage home by a fail, but is doing
well.
Brig Roderick, capt. E. narding, of Ncw-York,

been to the N of llantegate, drifted to the S. of
the Capes; and finally put in on Friday, lost an
anchor before slie got a pilot on board, was then
anchored in Lewistown roads, where on Satur
day, on account of her'dragging into shoal water,
they cut and run for the beach, where she now is,
making no water—*0 lives lost P.tsengers, Mr.

thumped heavy on the bar, but got over finally,
but bilged immediately afterwards: some of her
bottom plank drifted ashore. Fart or her crew
got frost-bitten in landing die specie—Cargo will
