Besides, we are satisfied, that our readers taka no

Which it il impossible to peruse without imbibing
a portion of their sadness. We ourselves resem-

The replication of s "Jenny Canadian” to a

when convenient. In 'affording this school of
braying poetasters the means of coming before
the public, we would not have it understood that
our imaginations are delighted with their 'poetic

and bombastic, indicative *f a perverse taste and

us to give publicity to another. Two samples df
garbled metre in one year, are enough for the lie-

LOSS OF THE BRIG COMET.
Captain Winkly, who arrived this morning
in 21 days from St. Thomss, informs us, that the
brig Comet, Hunt, of Bath, sailed, on the 9th of
April, from Bass End, St. Crpix, for East End.
with 19 puncheons of rum; and after beating
about two days, was obliged to put away for St.
Thomas' for a harbor. In the course of the night
he made a smalt Bay, which captain Hunt mis
took for the harbor of St. Thomas. On entering
the Bay, at 9 o’clock in. the evening, he discover
ed breakers ahead, and there being a heavy sea
and no wind, he immediately cast both anchors.
On swinging round, the brig struck upon a rook
and instantly filled and suck. Captain Hunt and
his crew saved themselves in the boat, aitd arriv
ed at St. Thomaa’s on the following morning.

Port of Belton, May 5.
Our readers will doubtless recollect of having
published a few davs since, an account of the loss
of the ship Mary & Betsey, of Charleston, S. C.
which it was stated foundered in the latitude of
the Grand Cayman, on the 3d December last, on
her passage from Baltimore to New-Orleans, and
when attempting to gain the Musquito sboie in
the long boat, 25 out of j8 on board, perished.—
Two of the crew arrived here in the Mary, Tate,
from Honduras; and two others arrived on Sunday
last, in the Favorite, Shaw, from the same port.—
From circumstances which have since transpired
is suspected the account published, and which
waa given by the two first mentioned seamen, is a
fabrication. There can be little doubt that the’
ship it lost, but in what manner cannot be ascer
tained perhaps until a legal investigation is had
upon tie subject. It is to be hoped that the sto
ry of the loss of su many lives may prove to be
uni rue.
