Ard be it further ordained by the au- t'ho-ity aforetatd, That if any person or persons, whatsoever, shall buy, or cause to be bought, or shall make any bargain, contract, or promise, £pr the having and buying of any of the articles above recited, brought to, or intended to be brought to any cf the public markets of this city, before the ringing- of die bell, or until I lie stated times and hours, as herein specified, such person or persons so offending, shall forfeit the articles so bought or contracted for, and the seller and the buyer, shall each be fined, if a free person or persons, in a sum not exceeding twenty dollars, at the discretion of council; and, if a slave or slaves shall be guilty of the like offence, lie, she or they, shall suffer such fin?, orcurporal punishment, as is directed in the forgoing clause:—Provided, that no citizeri'pur- chasing, for the use of his own family, from any person bringing fish or vegetables to market, pre vious to its arrival at the market house, shall be subject to such a fine; snd, that no person or per sons shall buy or sett, or contract for tbejjuying or selling of any pork, beef, mutton, veal, or meat that shall be killed in, or brought to the said city, for sale, before the same shall be brought to either of (he markets, and exposed to sale there, under the penalty and forfeiture, for every such offence, as well of buyer orseller, often dollars, together with the article or articles so bought, sold or con tracted for. ‘Sec. 9.
