Human Hair.
fflllE disenscsof the hair among us are those
X which occasion baldness ami gradual falling
off of the hnir, and thinness of it—tho causes of
which arise from many disorders, especially le
vers; perspiration, which extends tho mires, re
laxes the roots, causes the hair to full off, and of
ten occasions total baldness. Baldness has ever
been esteemed a great defect, li generally arises
through violent cxetcisn, from whence arise per
spirations, which too frequently occasion n loss
of the hnir—it relnxes the roots—the acidity, pre
vents tho fluid ncting on the hnir, which occasions
it to waste. For instance, after n violent perspi
ration the hnir becomes dry, it feels extremely
(Hirsh, and no elasticity in it whatever; therefore,
to prevent its taking an effect on tho hnir, first
rub the hairdry with n cloth, then apply the Cas*

Itownwl’s Tonic Mixture, or
Vegetable Febrifuge,
A specific nnd lasting cure for Fever and Ague.
T HIS worthy remedy earnestly repels the bIut
of being a quark medicine, it having been
the result of many years study, experience and
labor, in the medical practice, aud observation of
FevcrnnJ Ague. It is composed of such medi
cinal principles as were considered most fit to re
store thehnrmnny ofaction between the stomach,
liver, utid the other important functions of the
sy.tbtn.thc loss of which harmony is evidently the
immediate cause of the disease. It spcedily’pro-
mole* a regular and healthy appetite “which is
generally entirely destroyed or rendered very
precarious; by which effect, vigor nnd strength is
soon uffnrdeu to the whole system. It most he
.apparent to nil. that a medicine possessing these
peculiar virtues, Is useful in n great variety of
complaints. By renewing tho healthy action of
the digestive organs, it has proved itself of re
markable benefit in dyspepsia, depraved appetite,
henrt-huru, water brash, flatulency, jaundice,
night sweats, dysentery, bowel complaints, and
all other nfllctions of similar origin, hut it is in
the treatment of Fevers, nnd especially in Fever
and Ague, or Remittent Fever, that its powers
have been jiripcipally tested, and with llmsc who
have seen its usefulness, it is pronounced sover
eign to all remedies heretofore discovered fo
those diseases. It has also been used ns n pro
ventive, by many who were subject to n periodi
cal recurrence of the chills and fever, nnd it has
always warded oil* the apprehended attack. It
was deemed not improper to accompany tho
vegetable febrifuge with a few of the many une
quivocal certificates politely furnished to the pro
prietor .corroborative of the" foregoing statemciiU.

Jayne’s Hair Tonic—Hair.
T HERE is nothing like a good head of hair to
set off a man’s pate. As the poet says—
“—'Tis the robe which curious nature weaves
To hnugupon the head, and does adorn
Our bodies."
To'be sure a bald head is becoming enough in
a judge, or a minister, for itlnoks grave rmd ven
erable, und tlm' it tuny not be an unerring evi
dence of wisdom, yet it is a decisive proof that
the individual is not hnir brained.—Young per
sons, especially young beaus nnd belles, are rath
er avelse to a premnlur.o disrobemenl of their
roof* ; and he who offers a remedy to preserve
that important ornament must be looked upon in
the light of a benefactor- Ant! such a one is Dr.
Jayne, whose hair tonic has done wonders incoax
tng the hair out on barren spots, und preventing
its pilling off. There is no ntinckerv about this
nrticle. We have seen evidence ofits efficacy.
A gentleman who has been bald for n numbered
years, by the use of this tonic, has got quite n
"flourishing growth on the late waste place. Those
whose hair, like false friends, is leaving them,
will find this an excellent preventive. To young
bucks who aspire to bushy whiskers, this tonic
must he invaltiuble—and to young ladies who
would preserve their glossy ringlet*, it must be
tlic great desideratum.—Portland Transcript.

T O CONSUMPTIVES.—Four-fifths of you
are really suffering from neglected colds,or
an obstruction nnd consequent inflammation of
the delicate lining of those tubes through which
