The New World was bSguu, ill tlm largo or folio size, in October 1839. It immediately-ac quired n circulation impreccdeully great. It was ordered to be fentto all parts of the country; it was sold in great numbers in tlm principal ci ties of tlm Uuion. The plan upon which it wnscoudiicted was novnl nnd siriliiiig. Its dis tinguishing feature was, that it republished with unpurulluled dispatch, tlio most attractive por tions of'new English literature. On it* broad and ample puges were displayed in rapid nnd bril liant succession, tho Idlest productions of the niost propular authors of the day. Their names formed a galaxy, which shed a fascinating lu>tro around tho new and copious jourua). One star diii'ored from another star in glory, but they were allstnis. Not ninny of tho minor lights were admitted into their splendid company. Dickens, Bultcer, Talfonl, Milford, Ainsworth, Dewey, Sedgwick, Longfellow, have few compeers in their time, and few urn worthy of being rank ed with them. It was not to lie wondered nt that the Npw World become a great fhvorito with the intelli gent and reading nubile. There was only one . objection made to it—and that was to its size. Tho Folio form was the most popular but net most convenient for those, who, considered tho works which it contained too'valuable to bo thrown aside. For such readers, tlio Quarto was commenced in June last, and for such it wil he continued.
