mula of tho invontor, M. Lnbarruque, a distinguish
ed chemist in Paris, who was rewarded by tho Royal
Institute of France, with the prize of S00 Banc* for
its discovery. H ia now conaidcrcd the most power-
Ail, disinfecting agent known. It is Ihr preferable
to Chloride of Llmo, being more convenient nnd a-
grooablo. and enn bo kept in bottles, wail corked,
for any length of timo ; whereas, tho other very soon
loses its disinfecting qualities. This Liquid will
immediately destroy the nauscoua effluvia, which a-
rises from kennels,‘sewers, drain*, sinks, water-clos-
eta, markets, ships, ■ tables, hospitals, wards, prisons,
alalia for beef nnd fish; and, in general, all places
infected with animnl exhalations. It has completely
succeeded in removing the local infection and tho
bad smell which arises Bom mortification, foul ul
cers, nr bad sores of any kind. When mixed with
16 parts of water, it makes a moat excellent wash for
carious teeth, ulceration of tho mouth, or a gargle
for a sore-throat. It has been used extensively, and
boon found a most effectual application in eruptions
of tho akin, such as tetters or ringworm, itch, fitc,

P HCENIX BITTERS AND LIFE
PILLS—Remarks of tho Publfc Press—
From the Litchfuld (Conn.) Spn.
Among tho many advortisod medicine* of the day,
there is none more justly celobrated than Moffat’s
Life Pill* and Phmaix Bitters. Wherever intro
duced, they have given entire satisfaction, and their
vitraes only want to bo more extensively known to
render them a universally approved medicine. We
are not in tho habit of puffing to contribute to tho
venality of quacks for a douceur, and have no faith
in their cure-all nostrums. But Air. Moffat's Medi
cines are a different article; his Pills are a good ca
thartic, and his Bitters an excellent tonic. Wo
know them to bo ao from experience, having used
thorn ourselves in our family, and ao confident aro
wo of their efficacy, that, rlthough we have no au
thority to do so. we will warrant their giving satis
faction in all complaints for which they are recom
mended.
From the Goihtn Dtmocral,
Tho beat medicines for giving fresh vigor to tho
ryvtem, dnrteg the warm w^thor, nrc Muffht’s Life
Pill* nnd Phamix Bitten. Great numbers who
liavo mado uso of them, find that they cleanse tho
stomach of all impurities, and give a healthy tone to
tho system, create a good appetite, and thereby re
move the languor ana feebleness, which oppresses
almost every person during the hot season. Thoso
who aro afflicted, need only to make a fair trial of
these medicines to be convinced.
From the Louisville Journal, Oct. 13.
At the solicitation of an old friend, wo publish,
with pleasure, in this day’s paper, letter from Mr.
O. L. Smith, of tho firm of Smith, Riddle fit Co. of
this city, to Mr. Moffat, of tho city of Now York,
propriotor of tho “Life Pill and Phamix Bitten.” In
this letter, Mr. Smith gives an account of his Buffer
ings from a severe attack of chronic rheumatism,
under which ho labored for more than three years,
and of his speedy cure by tho use of tho aforesaid
medicines. A certificate, coming from so respects-
bio n source, ennnot fail to have its weight in this
community. Iftliis medicine is found by expcrionco
to effect so immediate a euro of a complaint so pain
ful and distressing, in would bo highly valuable to
penons engaged in navigating steamboat* on our
western rivers. From their constant exposure to
tho inclemency of tho wenthcr, nnd from lira rapidi
ty of their transition from a cold to a warm climate,
and from tv warm to a cold one, their aro peculiarly
liable to rheu.. a tic attacks. To them this medicino
may prove on invaluablo remedy: one which they
can always koop on hand lor uso as occasion may
requiro.
It is said that a singlo dose of three pills, or two
doses at most, will relievo a common cold. Tho
proprietor of the medicine, through a friend, was so
kintl, a few weeks ago, as to sona us n bottle of tho
bitters, r .’d a box of tho pills: and whon afflicted
with a severe cold, we have derived apparently great
benefit from their uso. \Vo do not bclievo that any
medicine ever lias been or over will bo discovered,
which, in scriuus complaints, will supcrccdo the
necessity of tho physician’s services, yot wo havo
strong renson to liopo that tho medicino of which
wo have been speaking, will prove of groat utility
to the community.

A Word to Parents.—All tho mortality you wit
ness among children nnd youth arises from anogloot
of small complaints. Children will oAen avoid com
plaint in order to avoid taking medicino. It be
hooves parents, therefore, to watch them closely, as
they valuo their health, their very existence. This
fiiithAilly dono, they would never have any serious
illness. And what is tho groat hardship and incon
venience, to guard one's sell and one’s children from
discaso. whon we thereby secure our constant hap
pineaa t A small doso ortho Vegetable Life Medi
cines, administered occnssionnlly, is all that is re
quisite; and to till* end. not nn individual among
parents should passed a singlo night without at least
a 26 cent box ortho Life Pills in the houso. This
mndo, strictly followed, will keep whole families in
period hoaltli; and they, will consequently take less
of this one medicino in a year, then is sometimes
required in a singlo wook of serious Ulnoss, nt tho
hands of a physician. Parents by attending to tills
wholcsomo ndvico, you will render your chiliton
really hardy, sprightly, and intelligent, and at tho

Coughs, Colds, Shortness of Breath, Asthma,
fisc.—This invaluablo medicino has tho extraordin
ary property of immediately relieving Coughs, Colds,
Hoarseness, difficulty of Breathing, and hurkincss
in tho Throat. It operates by dissolving tho con
gealed phlegm, consequently causing a free expec
toration. Those who are troubled with thatunploas-
ant tickling in the throat, which deprives them of
rest night sfrer night, by the incessant cough which
it provokes, will, by taking ono dose, find immediate
roliof; and ono bottle, in most cases, will effect a
cure. In nstiuna, chronic coughs, difficulty of
breathing, fire, no pen can describe the wonders that
have been performed by this invaluablo medicine;
many, who for years, havo been unable to lay down
in their beds, without a danger of being choked by
nn accumulation of phlegm, (which invariably cause*
a dreadful cough); others who with difficulty could
breathe at all, in a recumbent posture, have, by tak
ing one doso of this excellent Balsam, been enabled
to lay down comfortably in their beds.
Copy of a letter from Miss A. Thomas.—Sir:
Through tho medium of this letter, I beg leave to
offer my gratotel thanks for your invaluable Balsam;
having suffered by severe cough and difficulty of
breathing, for several winters, was quite cured by
taking one bottlo only.
